Mrs. Thome’s Talk of the Month
Did you know social media affects children's mental health?
Proven by several studies that children and adolescents mental health is being affected by social media. Being on social media for more than 2 hours puts your child at a higher risk of experiencing symptoms of depression and anxiety.
Winter Means Cold Temps
If you have a K-5 student they need to have a coat, hat and gloves when its time to go outside. I know there has been no snow this year but we are in winter and those winds are cold. Also, remember when we get that first snow fall we need snow gear at school everyday.
Christmas Break
School dismisses at regular time today. Classes resume Wednesday, Jan. 3. The school offices will be closed for the Christmas break.
ABC Info
Payments to ABC, lunch money and so on, should not only be in an envelope, but the envelope should be labeled with your child's name and which department it should go to.
Also, a reminder that there are more lost and found items now that it is winter, but when you label your child's items with their name, it helps us get them matched up so that they go home with your child instead of hanging out in the lost and found.
Tax Credit Information
If you would like tuition and ABC payments to be credited to the 2023 calendar year for tax purposes, please have payments in by year end. Tax credit letters will be sent to families in January. Thank you.
CDA Education Contest
The Catholic Daughters of America is sponsoring the 2023-2024 Education Contest. Please see the attached information. This is for students 4-12th grade and adult CDA members.
Give the Gift of Catholic Education
Education Savings Accounts, ESAs, have given parents a choice in their child's education. Catholic education is becoming more affordable for families. For more than 35% of families, the Our Faith Student Tuition Organization, or STO, is the first piece of financial assistance income qualified families rely on. Even with the ESA's this year, more than 3100 students in the Archdiocese of Dubuque received more than $5.5 million in tuition assistance from the STO.
Iowa taxpayers that donate to the STO receive a 75% Iowa tax credit, or 75 cents back for every dollar you contribute on your Iowa tax return. The 75% STO tax credit is the only tax credit of its kind, and it reduces the amount of taxes you pay to the state of Iowa at tax time. If you want to learn more about how to turn your taxes into tuition, call the school office or go to OurFaithSTO.org.
We Need You
Our smiling faces need YOU! Here's a great opportunity to earn some extra money and help us out while your students are at school. It's also a rewarding opportunity for those who are retired or looking for something fun to do! What other job lets you pick the exact days and how often you want to work?
Do you have a BA, BS, AA, or have you completed 60 hours of college credit? If so, it's never been more simple to become an authorized substitute teacher for PK-12.
The Substitute Authorization course is offered through AEA Remote Learning. It's 10 hours online and 10 hours meeting via zoom. More info
