Prayer Reflection
“Master, I want to see.” Throughout the Gospels, seeing is often a metaphor for spiritual insight or true faith. Stories about the blind coming to sight help us understand not only the physical miracle but also the spiritual side of seeing clearly.
The story of Bartimaeus, the blind beggar, is such a story. We read and understand its literal meaning – a blind man persistently calls out for Jesus’ help and is healed. But we can also read this story on a spiritual level – a human being thirsting for God calls out to Jesus without ceasing until he can see. Bartimaeus is a model for us. Like us, he has faith in Jesus based on things he has heard. As we should, he calls out to him unabashedly. He won’t listen to those who try to silence his cry. He asks for “pity” (or “mercy”) – not because he wants Jesus to feel sorry for him but because he is eager to experience Jesus’ compassionate power. When he hears that Jesus is calling him, he “springs up” and goes to him immediately. He is clear and strong in his request for sight.
What happens if we follow this model in our own prayer lives? Perhaps we too will receive the gift of improved sight, so that we may see God more clearly and follow Jesus more closely. "Immediately he received his sight and followed him on the way.”
From The Principal
Happy Halloween!!!
Fr. Briccio's installation into the Archdiocese will take place on Sunda, November 1st at the 10.30am Mass. I wish to invite all our families to this Mass. It is also our School Family Mass at 9am.
All Souls Day: We will have a school Mass on All Souls Day on Monday, November 2nd at 9am. All families are welcome to join the school community in worship on this day.
Confirmation
Congratulations to our 8th Graders who will be receiving the Sacrament of Confirmation on Saturday at 10am. I wish to invite everyone to the Confirmation ceremony. Thanks to Mr. Ceja for preparing the students over the past two years. Thanks to Miss Maiorano for her assistance with the program.
Parent Teacher Conferences
Unfortunately some parents did not complete the online conference request forms correctly, which has made it difficult for my staff. I would ask everyone to follow instructions when completing the forms in the future. Please be on time for the teacher conferences and adhere to the time frame of 15 minutes. If a conference needs to go overtime, a separate meeting can be set up with the teacher.
St. Vincent De Paul "Books for Hope Drive"
This past week we have been assisting the St. Vincent De Paul Society with their Books for Hope drive. All classes have been involved in bringing unwanted books from home for the drive. Thanks to everyone who contributed to this appeal.
Staff Changes
I was informed last Wednesday that Miss Dutton will no longer be working at All Souls, as she will be going back to the University full time to complete her studies. The company IES, where we outsource our Spanish teachers, have found a new instructor, Adriana Borrero. We welcome her to our school community.
IOWA Results
We have received our IOWA results, and in general we have seen a year's growth for students across all subject areas. The results are used to adjust teaching and learning for our students for the rest of the year.
Halloween
On Friday, October 30th, we celebrate Halloween. Children may come dressed in their costumes at the beginning of the day. The parade will begin at 1pm in the upper yard. The children will walk down Miller Avenue to the end of the block behind City Hall and then turn right to Grand Avenue, walk up Grand Avenue to Spruce and back to the school ground. We wish to inform parents who are organizing the class parties that healthy food items are to be purchased for the afternoon. No nuts are to be purchased or any kind of soda.
God Bless,
Vincent Riener
Principal
