PBIS TEAM of the WEEK

Congratulations to TEAM ADMIRALS!

The 6th grade team worked on the PRIDE Matrix this week and focused on P- Prepared. Students were rewarded and reinforced when they were prepared for class and tasks. The Team also created an interactive board that was all the buzz among the students. Great positivity and motivation!

Students will be receiving PBIS POPCORN treats from administration this week. Nice job, Admirals!

PRIDE QR CODES

Staff have been working on discussing expected behaviors with students and we have recently implemented a positive reward system for all students. Students who continue to demonstrate expected PRIDE and Model Mustang behaviors will receive a Pride QR code (PQR) from a staff member.

It is important to SMS that we continue to reinforce the great things we see our students doing all of the time, not only to reiterate appropriate behavior, but to also reinforce that this behavior is appreciated and will help them be successful.

With the help of parent donation and PTA, we have weekly, monthly, quarterly and semester rewards for students to earn. The more PQRs they receive, the more opportunities they have to win.

We are looking forward to celebrating and rewarding our students. They deserve it!

Counselor's Corner!

Cookies with Counselors

Being new and adjusting can be hard, but our school counselors make that transition a bit easier and we are so grateful for their support. This Friday, they invited all new students (to District and back from SOLO) to join them for some fun in the sun, cookies and cheer. This students seemed to love the special time. Thank you for all that came and to our counselors for organizing a great treat!

Levy Renewal Information

Did you know that Strongsville City Schools has a renewal levy (Issue 68) on the upcoming November ballot? This is a renewal levy, which means there are no new taxes. One of our District’s goals is “Financial Prudence.” We are proud of the national recognition our Treasurer’s Office has received for financial reporting, budget presentation, and overall fiscal transparency since 2016. Strongsville City Schools continues to appreciate and be good stewards of the financial support received from our community.

Parent Teacher Conferences

Parent Teacher Conferences: October 5th (In-Person) and 6th (Virtual) from 4-7p.m. Parents/Guardians will have the opportunity to elect an in-person or virtual conference. Individual conferences will be 15 minutes long.Teams will be contacting you with sign up options this week. Please see your email to sign up.

SMS PTA Fundraising Campaign!

The SMS PTA is excited to launch our 2021 Fundraising Campaign! Please click on the link below to contribute. All funds will benefit student and staff initiatives in our goal to restore our budget which was drastically reduced in 2020. Students receive entry to a prize raffle with each donation!

Live Stream Instruction

Students who are out due to a quarantine may be provided a Google Meet link for their classrooms( if not a link, instructional videos and materials on Google Classroom). Please note that just because a student is sick or absent from school, the teachers are not required to provide live stream instruction. However, absent students can always check their Google Classroom for assignments and any additional information and reach out to their teachers for additional questions.

Student Headphones

Please make sure that your student brings headphones to school daily. Students need these for independent opportunities in the classroom. Thank you!

IMMUNIZATION REQUIREMENTS FOR 7TH & 12TH GRADERS (2021-2022 SCHOOL YEAR)

Please note the following immunization requirements from the Ohio Department of Health

All students entering 7th grade need to receive the following immunizations prior to entering 7th grade: One (1) dose of Meningococcal [MCV4] vaccine (a second dose of meningococcal vaccine will be required prior to entry into the 12th grade) & One (1) dose of Tdap [tetanus, diphtheria and pertussis] vaccine

All students entering 12th grade need to receive the following immunizations prior to entering 12th grade: Two (2) doses of Meningococcal [MCV4] vaccine

Incoming 7th and 12th graders will need to show proof of having received these vaccines before they can return to school for the 2021-22 school year (exemptions are provided for under law, call for more information).

Section 3313.671 of the Ohio Revised Code states that students who do not provide documentation of this immunization will be excluded from school on the 15th day after entrance, until proof is provided.
