Good afternoon, Bears and Bear Families!
It's hard to believe that we are already at Thanksgiving Break! It's the time of year when we gear up for lots of turkey and Black Friday shopping, but it is also the time of year when we sit back and enjoy the scenes around us: brightly colored leaves, friends and families gathered around us, decorating our houses for the season ahead.
Bears, as you go through this holiday break, please take time to drink in and etch these scenes in your memory. Take time to sit with your relatives and hear their stories of Thanksgiving past. Unplug from the phone and have conversations with those around you. Take pictures (even selfies!) with your grandparents, parents, aunts, uncles, siblings, cousins, neighbors, friends, and loved ones. These are the moments you will remember.
I always talk about making Cambridge your best four years. Although these Thanksgiving Break moments are not technically "high school" moments, these are the memories you will have of high school. Make the most of all these experiences. Take time to enjoy them, listen, survey the scene, and make memories that will last a lifetime. Your family and friends will love that they have your full attention, and you may learn something about your family or friends you never knew. For the break, I'm handing you the baton. It is your job to make wonderful memories for yourself. It is your job to make this your best high school moment.

Cambridge Teen Earns Freedom Award
A senior at Cambridge High School was the first in Milton to earn Trail Life USA’s highest advancement award, the Freedom Award. Fisher Bryant, a senior at Cambridge High School, earned the highest award in Trail Life USA, the Freedom Award.
In an October ceremony, Fisher Bryant was recognized for the accomplishment in Trail Life USA, a Christ-centered, K-12, boy-focused character development and outdoor adventure organization founded in 2013. The program serves more than 50,000 members in over 1,000 local troops in all 50 states.
Each Freedom Award candidate must serve the community with a minimum of 20 hours each school year, earn 25 Trail Badges, complete four Freedom Experiences, successfully plan and lead a Servant Leadership Project benefiting the community or a faith-based organization, complete the spiritual development "Worthy Life" award and sit for a Board of Review to become a Freedom Rangeman.

Friday & Checking Out
If you are planning to be checked out on Friday, November 17:
- Bring a check-out note and turn it in to the Attendance Office before school that morning.
- You will receive a hall pass for you to go to the kiosk at the correct time to check out.
We will not take requests over the phone or through email that day. - We can not accommodate walk-up checkouts during 4th period.
Mental Health Resources
If you or someone you know is experiencing an emergency, please seek immediate assistance and/or call 911.
We have provided multiple resources should you or someone you know need assistance over the Thanksgiving holiday. These resources include emergency Mental Health Resources, counseling services, and resources for food and housing.
Final Days of Semester One
All teachers are giving an assessment on the Final Days of the semester (December 13 & 14). The type of assessment is at the teacher's description;
- could be a minor grade, a major grade;
- could be a quiz, test, or project;
- could be cumulative or based on the last unit of the semester.
Regardless of the type of assessment, the assessment will count towards the student's final grade of the semester. Teachers will inform students of the Final Days Assessment format.
The final day, December 15 will be a Recovery Day for any students who need it based off the Final Days Assessments. Students who fail to come to Recovery Day forfeit the ability to recover the Final Days Assessment. Students who do not need Recovery will not be expected to attend.
Note:
- Final days Assessments will not be given early.
- Teachers will not give assessments on December 11 or 12 to allow students time to study and prepare for the Final Assessments.
- By board policy, there have been no preapproved absences in the last two weeks of the semester. Students are expected to be at school until the last day of the semester.
Bell Schedule:
The bell schedule for the final days of the semester can be found at the End of the Semester Bell Schedule. The last three days of the semester will be half-days, with buses pulling out at 12:45 pm.
Parent Survey - Your Opinion Matters!
Tell us about your experiences with the district and your school by filling out the College and Career Ready Performance Index (CCRPI) Georgia Parent Survey required by the Georgia Department of Education. This survey provides a foundation for your school’s Climate Star rating score and is part of the CCRPI. These climate scores are an important indicator of culture and climate within each school in the district. Each school will receive a 1–5-star rating, with five stars representing an excellent school climate and one star representing a school climate most in need of improvement. The anonymous and confidential surveys will remain open through Friday, December 15.

During this virtual meeting, students and families will learn about the numerous advanced and AP courses at Cambridge High School and our World Languages, CTAE, and Fine Arts pathways.
Rising 9th and New Students Night - February 6 at 6:00 pm at Cambridge High School
We invite all rising 9th-grade families and new students to Cambridge High School to an open house to experience what Cambridge High School has to offer.

Student IDs
All students are required to wear their Student IDs on campus. This will eventually grow to mandated IDs at all school events. This is a safety issue. We need to be able to identify students quickly in an emergency to get them help and or reunite them with their families.
Teachers check for IDs in their classes while taking attendance. The names of students who are not wearing their IDs when attendance is called will be turned over to the administration for detention. Administrators will email parents should their child be given detention for “failure to follow the rules,” as well as the information on the date of the detention.
Students who have lost their ID may purchase a new ID in the front office for $10. We will no longer offer temporary IDs. View Student IDs for more information.
Junior Meeting with Counselor
Juniors and their parents/guardians can schedule an appointment to speak to their counselor and start planning for senior year and after graduation. Each family can schedule one appointment anytime between now and January. Student attendance is mandatory, and parents are encouraged to attend but not required.
During this 30-minute meeting, counselors and students will review graduation requirements, plan senior-year classes, and discuss post-secondary options. Students will receive a pass to attend in person, and parents/guardians are invited to join via TEAMS. If the student signs up for the appointment, it is their responsibility to share the TEAMS link with their parent/guardian so they can attend the meeting.
Note: Juniors who have not scheduled a meeting by November 30, the counselors will make an appointment for you for a date and time that is open on their calendars.

Returning FVS and GAVS students need to register for their second semester online class.

Dual Enrollment
Students taking dual enrollment classes at Georgia State University-Perimeter Campus, UNG, Gwinnett Tech, Lanier Tech, Auburn, etc. (any college except Young Harris) need to submit a copy of their spring college class schedule to their counselor as soon as they enroll in classes. We need a copy by Wednesday, December 15, 2023. Please follow the college's process for registering and abide by their deadlines.
Tips for Getting Ahead or Catching Up!
Thanksgiving Break is perfect for catching up on missing work or assignments. Please check Infinite Campus this week and reach out to your teacher if you need help locating missing assignments for completion. Remember that students only have until the end of the next unit to turn in work and face a penalty of 25% off the grade for late work.
Thanksgiving Break is also a good time to get caught up (or ahead) in Fulton Virtual courses. There are MANY students behind in virtual right now. Please reach out to your Fulton Virtual teacher or log into Canvas to ensure you are on track to finish the course.

AP Exams at Cambridge
If a student plans to drop an AP class in the second semester and will not take the AP exam, please get in touch with Ms. Weatherford, or a $40 fee will be assessed.
Late exam dates are for those who are taking two exams scheduled on the same day and at the same time. Exams for late dates will only be ordered for approved requests.

January 1 - 5 College Application Deadlines
Students with a January 1 through January 5, 2024, application deadline need to submit their request for transcripts and recommendation letters by December 2, 2023.
Winter Break begins, and the school and school offices will be closed, starting at 4:00 pm on December 15, 2023. Offices will remain closed until January 2, so no requests will be handled during that time. Students can continue working on college applications until the college's deadline, but counselors need the links from colleges or Common App in time to get the documents submitted before the beginning of Winter Break.
Please keep the following in mind and plan ahead. Students who need help should contact their counselor.
- Ten (10) school days are needed to process all transcripts, forms, and letter requests. Request all documents ahead of time. The counseling department does not process transcripts, forms, and letters on weekends, after school hours, or on school holidays.
- In Common Application (Common App), students must enter their school counselor's name and email address in order for them to get the link to upload the transcript and any documents that the college needs. This needs to be done ASAP and by December 2.
- The same holds true for teacher recommendations in Common App. Please enter the recommender's name and email address in the Common App ASAP and by December 2.
- Complete the FERPA Waiver section in Common App so teachers and counselors can send your documents to colleges.
- Non-Common App colleges may need the counselor's name/email address and teacher's name/email address as well to upload the transcript and/or letter of recommendation. Please ensure that you type the email address accurately.
- Check that the application deadlines are correct. Counselors need these deadlines to be absolutely correct to ensure documents get to the college on time.
- Counselors need a Senior Biography Sheet from each senior to process transcripts and send letters of recommendation. A hard copy can be picked up from Bridge West or downloaded at Senior Biography.
- Not all colleges require a letter from the counselor. If one is required, then it will be provided. For teacher recommendations, always ask the teacher before putting their name as a recommender. If colleges require teachers' letters, they want from 1-3 maximum. Please do not request a letter from more than three teachers for one single college.

GEORGIA MATCH is a simple way for seniors to know where they are eligible for admission (to be admitted to college) based on their recent high school-calculated HOPE grade point average (GPA). The State of Georgia wants to make it easy for students to see where they could attend college in Georgia based on their current academic record and to apply to institutions you are most interested in attending! Graduation Cap and Gown Order
Your senior’s graduation package includes their cap and gown for the commencement exercises. Please order your package through 3rd Ascent as soon as possible. Our gowns are custom-made each year, and ordering by the end of this month ensures we can provide the correct size for each order. Beginning January 1, orders must be rushed, and pricing will increase.
The Winter Solstice Tree is Back
This year, Cambridge is teaming up with Fulton County DFACS to give gift cards to teenagers who are in foster care. Often, teens are the “forgotten ones” on holiday lists as they aren’t easy to shop for and aren’t the first picked from an angel tree, or they receive a leftover gift intended for an eight-year-old. COVID slowed us down, but we are looking to get back into the rhythm of giving. For those interested in participating (teachers, students, parents): Stop by Mr. Schuler’s room (2801) and pick up a solstice tree outside his room and return it with your gift card (either in a gift bag or wrapped in a small box) by Tuesday, December 12, 2023.

Student Volunteer Sign-ups
Students can earn up to four service hours for their help working our Holiday event, December 6, 2023. Students can sign up using the link below. Once they sign up, they will receive a receipt with a Remind Code so they can get updates on when and where to report, as well as other pertinent information.
UGA Young Scholars Internship
The Young Scholars Program (YSP) is a paid five-week summer internship program for high school students interested in agricultural, food, and environmental sciences. Selected students work 30 hours per week actively engaged in research under the guidance of a faculty mentor on the UGA Athens, Griffin, or Tifton campus. During the program, students attend workshops and visit agricultural operations to gain exposure to the various fields of study and careers in agriculture.

AGaretta Box
The AGaretta Box is back! Students enrolled in the Agribusiness Course at the CAVE operate a weekly produce subscription service with freshly harvested items in each bag. These work great as meal kits and save a trip to the grocery store for produce.
At the City of Alpharetta's Old Rucker Farm, every morning, students learn about how to grow organic local produce by operating an organic farm as a business model. Our students harvest a variety of options offered every week, including fruit, vegetables, mushrooms, and flowers! Boxes are available in large (serves up to 4) and mini sizes (serves up to 2) available for purchase under the shop tab on our website https://agarettabox.square.site/.
Boxes go on sale every Tuesday at 10:00 a.m., and sales will close on Thursdays at 10:00 a.m. Pick-up instructions will be sent by email. We are so excited to share our work, recipes, and good food with you all!

Thanksgiving or Holiday Assistance
Be the B.R.I.D.G.E.
We are always looking for ways to build culture at CHS, and this year, we want to more frequently recognize students and staff who epitomize Be the B.R.I.D.G.E. We would like to reward these students and staff for their continuous hard work through donated gift cards. So, we are asking if your family is able and willing to pitch in a small gift card between 5-20 dollars; we could really make a few students’ and teachers’ day. Have your student bring gift cards of small denominations to the Bridge East Front Office.
Starbucks, Target, Amazon, Publix, Dunkin Donuts, and local restaurants are all surefire ways to make someone’s day but feel free to clean out that kitchen catch-all drawer.
