I am privileged and honored to be part of the Nohl Canyon Family as your Principal. As we close out the 2022-2023 school year, I would like to thank every family and student for your support and positive engagement with Nohl Canyon. Nohl Canyon IS the best school in OUSD, due to our Parent Community, Amazing Staff, and Excellent Student Body!

I hope you have a restful and enjoyable summer break! My communication newsletter will begin July 30th with information on DATA Confirmation, Registration Day, and First Day of School Information. I am looking forward to the 2023-2024 school year!

i-Ready Reading and Math will be available for your child until Monday, July 31st, 2023!

By letting your child spend a brief amount of time each week (no more than 30 minutes for Reading and 30 minutes for Math) on their i-Ready learning pathway, they can enhance their reading and math skills over the summer.

Uniform Donations:

• Families have the opportunity to DONATE their used Uniforms, which will be available for discounted prices on Registration Day (August 15th)

Tops – Nohl Canyon Uniform shirts are to be worn each day. NC Spirit shirts are allowed throughout the week, along with scheduled themed days (Wednesday = College day). Nohl Canyon allows Free Dress on the final Friday of each month.

Bottoms – Uniform bottoms are to be any type (jeans and leggings included) of solid bottoms with no holes, stripes, or patterns. Colors are Black, Blue, Khaki, uniform plaid.

August 10th: New Family Orientation 4:00 pm

August 15th: Registration Day (School Picture Day, Registration)

August 15th: TK / K Back to School Night 5:00 pm

August 16th: First Day of School, Minimum Day

2023 VPHS YOUTH BASEBALL SUMMER CAMP

WHO: Players ages 6 to 14

WHEN: July 17th to July 21st

TIMES: 9:00am-12:00pm (July 17th to July 20th) & 9:00am-12:30pm (July 21st, Lunch will be provided)

DONATION: $250 and includes a Villa Park Baseball T-Shirt; Siblings that are registered at the same time will receive a $50 discount.

WHERE: Villa Park HS Baseball Field

Canyon HS Baseball, Division 4 CIF Champions, will be hosting a Youth (7-12 yr olds) Camp this summer.

Come join us for a morning of valuable training that can prepare you and your family for emergencies and disasters at home or away from home. Children 10 years and older may attend with a parent.

Our Early Learning office is taking down parent information for those that are interested in enrolling in our preschool program for next school year.

Reminder to all parents - the Absence Hotline is available to leave a message when you know your child will be or is absent for the school day. Please make your absent call prior to 9:00 am on the day of the absence.

When calling, please leave your childs name, grade, and reason for absence

Nohl Canyon is beginning to see more students carrying their own cell phones. Please discuss with your child the guidelines for cell phones/communication devices (watches) while at school:

1) NO CELL from BELL to BELL - cell phones need to be turned OFF and stored in students backpack from first bell to dismissal bell.

2) Students who need to contact parents/guardians are expected to come to the front office to make the phone call.

3) Students who do not follow the guidelines:

1st occurrence: warning - expected to place phone back in backpack

2nd occurrence: cell phone confiscated - Parent Pick-up in office

The KIDS CORNER section of the newsletter will be a place to highlight our Roadrunner Students succeeding in outside activities. Nohl Canyon has a wide range of students in a variety of activities; Dance, Gymnastics, Equestrian, Cheer, Karate, Tennis, Baseball, Basketball, Football, Hockey..plus many more. If you would like to highlight your child, please send Mr. Jones a photo and description of your child(s).
