Jarrell ISD Monday Memo
February 5, 2024
Hello Cougars,
It's National School Counseling Week. This week is a time to recognize the role School Counselors play in supporting students. They promote students' overall well-being and success by offering guidance, support, and resources to help them navigate the challenges of school and life.
Academic Guidance: School counselors help students set academic goals, choose appropriate courses, and develop study skills to enhance their academic performance.
Emotional Support: Counselors provide a safe and confidential space for students to express their feelings, cope with stress, manage emotions, and address personal issues that may affect their well-being.
Career Counseling: They assist students in exploring career options and planning for higher education or vocational training. To do this, counselors guide students through the college application, offering advice on standardized tests, scholarships, financial aid, and college selection.
Advocacy: They advocate for students' needs and rights, collaborating with teachers, parents, and other professionals to create a supportive and inclusive school environment.
Today, school counselors are much more than "Guidance Counselors." They are crucial in the daily dynamics of a student's life. While they still guide students to a path of success, their role in education has evolved into supporting the whole child. Whether it's academics, conflict resolution, crisis intervention, or college preparation, school counselors promote positivity and have our gratitude and thanks.
