Crow Island Parent Newsletter
August 29, 2022
Dear Crow Island Families,
We had a wonderful first few days of school. Students did a great job returning to the routines of school and we are looking forward to our first full week of school!
Last week, students learned about our school-wide expectations of being responsible, being respectful, and being safe. Staff taught students the expectations in locations throughout the school and those will continue to be reinforced throughout the year.
I wanted to quickly remind families about our PTO sponsored back to school bash on Thursday evening and hope to see you on Thursday evening.
Stay well,
Luke

Message from K-4 Principals:
It is with great joy that we celebrate the start of the new school year! It was a pleasure to welcome children and families to our school on a bright, Wednesday morning. Our teachers and greater school staff have immediately sought to engage students in learning and meaningful community-building. A special thank you goes out to our PTOs for partnering with us this past week.
Each week, our schools will send home a newsletter such as this via email. These newsletters are typically sent on Mondays, or the first day of the school week. They will contain important information from your child’s specific elementary school, district-wide updates, and news about joint efforts between our three elementary schools. For this reason, many weeks will include a joint letter from the elementary school principal team. Communication specific to your child’s classroom will be communicated by their individual teacher.
Lastly, we want to encourage parents and caregivers to mark their calendars for our Go-to-School Night on Thursday, September 15th (6:00 - 7:30pm). A more detailed communication sharing the structure and specific times of the evening will be coming soon.
Thank you for partnering with our schools with the common goal of providing an exceptional learning environment for our students.
Sincerely,
Beth Carmody, Hubbard Woods
Luke Livingston, Crow Island
Joshua Swanner, Greeley
Classroom Charters:
During the first few weeks of school our homeroom teachers will be engaged in creating classroom Charters with their homeroom classes. The charter is an agreement that is made between the members of each classroom to make students feel safe, welcome, and heard. The teacher will lead the homeroom through a discussion to create their classroom charter. Once the charter is finalized, each student and teacher will sign it and put it up for display in the classroom as it will be a reminder to the commitment the members of the classroom and community make to each other. The charter is the first step in our staff commitment to learn and use RULER social emotional learning strategies. You can learn more about RULER here:RULER
Used School Supplies Collection:
As the new school begins we have a great opportunity to help students in less fortunate circumstances. As you go your children's bags from the last school year please consider setting aside any lightly or unused supplies so they can be put to good use. We will have a couple of moms volunteering at drop off on Monday and Tuesday August 29th & 30th to take any bags or boxes from your car. One of our Crow families will then drive them to a city school that might not have access to these supplies otherwise. Many thanks for helping make a difference and supporting other teachers, schools and children! Examples of supplies could be:Pens, pencils, markers, erasers, scissors, notebooks, folders, lunch bags and backpacks.
Downsized Capital Improvement Plan
At the August 16 Meeting, the School Board approved a resolution to move forward with placing the $59.4MM referendum on the November 8, 2022 ballot. If this referendum should pass, it would fund the following work at our schools:
Updated safety components, including secure entry vestibules
Upgraded HVAC systems to improve air quality, air flow, temperature control and energy efficiency
Accessibility for all students, staff and visitors that complies with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)
Electrical wiring and panel upgrades to support technology and improve energy efficiency
Plumbing replacements to address fixtures that have reached the end of their useful life
The addition of a multipurpose room/cafeteria at Hubbard Woods
Removal of the temporary trailers at Crow Island and the subsequent addition of three permanent classrooms
Repurposing of the current gym to serve as a multipurpose room/cafeteria and the subsequent addition of a gym at Crow Island
Extension of the useful life of existing facilities and proactive reduction of costly emergency repairs
This letter from the Board and Superintendent was shared on Wednesday, August 17 with the community.
