New News
We recognize the conflict in the Middle East is impacting members of our Mt. Lebanon community. As a school district, we are here to support students and staff.
The news and social media coverage can be particularly difficult for children and teens to process. As families, conversations about the conflict may be occurring in your homes. The following resources may be helpful when you speak to your students about the conflict:
How to Talk to Kids About Violence, Crime, and War, Common Sense Media
How to Talk to Kids About Violence in the News, Common Sense Media
Resilience in a time of war: Tips for parents and teachers of elementary school children, American Psychological Association
Our school administrators and counselors are always available to offer support and guidance to children who are struggling. Please do not hesitate to reach out to them if you believe your child would benefit from additional support.
The Mt. Lebanon School District believes in providing a safe, inclusive, and welcoming school environment that recognizes and celebrates the diverse identities of all members of our school community, including students, their families, faculty, and staff. We remain committed to supporting our MTLSD community through this difficult time.
PE Excuse Reminder
Please contact the school nurse (Lsuess@mtlsd.net) and your student's PE teacher for any medical absences.
Your student may be excused from physical education for two (2) consecutive classes with a note from a parent/guardian stating the reason. However, if your student needs to remain out of physical education and/or recess for longer than two (2) consecutive classes, a note signed from a Physician, Certified Nurse Practitioner or Physician’s Assistant will be required. If a student has any type of sling, brace, ace wrap, stitches, etc. on their body they are to be excluded from gym until it is removed by a licensed healthcare provider and a note stating when they may return.
Smartwatch Reminders
Please review the following reminders about the use of smartwatches by students and families during the school day:
- Audio recording of other students and staff members with smartwatches is prohibited.
- Students should keep smartwatches in silent or airplane mode once inside the school.
- Students are not permitted to call home (or to others) using personal mobile phones or smart watches.
- If students need to speak with a parent or family member, they need to seek staff approval to use the phone located in the office.
- Students that are ill or not feeling well must be seen in the health office and are not to call home using a smartwatch - the health office staff will make phone calls home when students are ill.
- Family members should not call or text students during the school day - if a student's smartwatch alerts the student of an incoming notification during class time, it distracts everyone that hears the device.

The company offers retakes if eyes are closed, glasses have glare, or hair is blown in the face. If you have any additional questions about orders or retakes, please contact Wayne Bratten at 412-257-1506.

This page is also where you can report a problem/damage to your student's District-owned device using our form. This page also explains and provides a link to enroll in the District's annual Equipment Protection Plan (EPP) to limit any charges that might come from accidental damage to your student's District-owned device. This plan is optional and is not required.
Athletics
You can learn everything you need to know about Middle School Athletics, including starting dates, by visiting the MS Athletics Webpage.
Boys Basketball
7th and 8th grade boys basketball tryouts are set for Oct. 25th and Oct. 27th.
All boys trying out must be registered through family ID and have an updated physical uploaded as well. Students are not permitted to tryout if they do not have both of these completed by the start of tryouts. There is a yellow informational form in the Jefferson Middle Attendance Office. The form is also linked here Jefferson Basketball Tryout Information Form. If you have any questions, you can email Coach Dietz at rdietz@mtlsd.net or contact the athletic office.

Resources for Families
Safe2Say Something is a youth violence prevention program run by the Pennsylvania Office of Attorney General. The program teaches youth and adults how to recognize warning signs and signals, especially within social media, from individuals who may be a threat to themselves or others and to “say something” BEFORE it is too late. With Safe2Say Something, it’s easy and confidential to report safety concerns to help prevent violence and tragedies.
Here’s how it works:
- Submit a report through the Safe2SaySomething system
- Crisis center reviews, assesses and processes all submissions
- Crisis center sends all submissions to school administration and/or law enforcement for intervention
- If needed, crisis center may contact tipster anonymously through the app
