Week of December 14, 2020
Dear Families,
Happy Holidays! We are looking forward to a great week of school before Winter Break! There will be goody bags for each student available at the pick up distribution times as well as throughout the week. Each bag contains a holiday-themed pencil, eraser and a special holiday themed cookie! We hope every student is able to receive their little gift this week in addition to materials being sent home by teachers. If you can't make it during distribution, feel free to stop by between 8 am and 3 pm for pick up any day this week.
A reminder that the MVP Meeting is on Tuesday from 7:00-8:30 pm. The link is https://meet.google.com/akh-unkc-xko and all are welcome to participate!
Thank you to everyone who supported Mar Vista through the End of Year Auction! Your support goes directly to the classrooms to benefit student learning, engagement and social emotional wellbeing. Also thank you Ms. Kate Pavao and the MVPs for organizing this virtual event!!
Congrats to each student who received an award for November! Please see the virtual Character Awards Assembly below featuring our Mar Star Song Video with Sammy Sea Lion! The next Character Award Assembly will be in early February for December/January awardees.

Hi Families,
Families can come to get PE equipment supplied by PVUSD during distribution from 8-10 and 3-5 on Mondays. There will be a list of activities accompanying the equipment.
Students will be continuing unit 4 in our language arts curriculum, Benchmark, this week. This unit generally focuses on narrative stories and how perspectives/points of view shape these stories.
This week’s Kindness Challenge is to make a gift for a family member or friend!
Remember, students can also work to complete any of these acts of kindness each day: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1k0kD5TX1OS8sApoYotLo8f8l9Vs-QhQr/view?usp=sharing
Thank you for your support in spreading kindness throughout our community!
Students will be doing MAP assessment make-ups this week if they did not finish it last week.

Read what teachers are saying...
They purchased Zearn for us and I have to say it has been a HUGE support for my math program. I also appreciate the $400 classroom funds because I have been purchasing chapter book sets for my class. I also really appreciate Ashley continuing on being treasurer with her full time job. -Miss Risa

Bookshop Santa Cruz Holiday Book Drive
From Bookshop Santa Cruz:
Local public school libraries always count on new books from Bookshop’s annual Holiday Book Drive to increase and update their collections, but between Covid-19 and the recent wildfires, they need our help more than ever. Many books that were checked out never made it back to schools, so libraries’ inventories are low while the need for books is high.
"Our school library lost many books in our collection in the spring when students were not allowed on campus even to return books. Many 8th graders moved on to the high school and students moved away without having the usual process to return books at the end of the school year." —Martha Dyer, Librarian, Mission Hill Middle School
Donations in any amount are so appreciated!
Donations will be distributed by Santa Cruz City Schools, Pajaro Valley Unified School District, Live Oak School District, and Scotts Valley Unified School District.
Bookshop's Holiday Book Drive is cosponsored by the Santa Cruz Warriors and the Good Times. You can contribute by making a monetary donation to school libraries and classrooms, or specific books at a discount to donate. Our book drive will run online and in-store through December 31st.
