Superintendent Update
District Updates from Dr. Christina Hinds
Thursday, May 27, 2021
Tonight, we celebrate our 2021 high school graduates. Thank you for your flexibility as we work around the weather forecast. We can't wait to honor our graduates! Congratulations Class of 2021!
With the latest CDC guidance, all students and staff will continue to wear face masks at all times indoors unless they are eating and/or have a medical exemption. Face masks are not required outdoors. Additional COVID-19 procedures may be found in our approved Extended COVID-19 Learning (ECOL) plan on our website: https://waylandunion.org/downloads/covid-19/may__extended_covid-19_learning_reconfirmation_meeting_4_26__5_17-revised_5.17.21-2.pdf
Plans for the 2021-2022 school year are in the works. All students, Young 5s through 12th grade, will return to school for a half-day on Monday, August 23, 2021. As we await guidance from CDC, MDHHS and ACHD, we look forward to reduced COVID-19 restrictions. Please watch for updates throughout the summer.
Wayland Union Schools will return to school following a 100% in-person model of instruction for the 2021-2022 school year (i.e. five days per week or as indicated on our district calendar: https://waylandunion.org/downloads/district_files/school_calendar_2021-2022.pdf). If you would like Wayland Union to consider offering a virtual option for instruction, please complete this brief survey: https://forms.gle/YfUMjFSfi2kH5Bfb6 If you've already completed a survey as a current VAAC student, you do not need to complete the survey again. We are diligently planning for the upcoming school year; however, virtual instruction is not guaranteed. The response to the survey will assist us in planning.
As we transition to Memorial Weekend, I would like to thank those who have served and those who continue to serve our country. We remember those who have fallen and carry their legacy in our hearts.
In partnership,
Dr. Christina Hinds

Strategic Planning: We Value Your Input
The Wayland Union Schools Board of Education and Administration are launching a 3 to 5-Year Strategic Planning Process in collaboration with the Michigan Association of School Boards (MASB). The purpose of this initiative is to help develop new goals and strategies to offer an excellent education for students, while using public education resources in the most effective and efficient way.
Stakeholder feedback is an important part of the planning process. Community members, parents, teachers, students and all district staff members will have the opportunity to give input on the strengths, areas for improvement and ideas for the vision of Wayland Union Schools.
Your ideas about the strengths of Wayland Union Schools – along with your opinions concerning where there is potential for improvement and ideas about our vision/future – are very important to the success of this planning process. Therefore, the input sessions listed below have been established to get your ideas and suggestions. The following times have been established to gather input from parents and community members on Thursday, June 3, 2021:
5:30-6:30pm Dorr Elementary School Parents and Community Members
7:00-8:00pm WUHS Fine Arts Center Parents and Community Members
If you are unable to attend one of these sessions, an online survey for your input is available at: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/WaylandUnionSP2021
All responses to face-to-face meetings and those received electronically will be anonymous and handled confidentially by MASB.
FROM ACHD: Vaccinations for children ages 12- to 15-years old
Hello Parents and Caregivers,
The Allegan County Health Department is looking to understand if you are interested in getting your children vaccinated to prevent COVID-19. ACHD has developed a quick, anonymous survey that should take less than 10 minutes to fill out. The information collected will be used for planning mobile clinic sites and developing/sharing educational materials regarding the COVID-19 vaccines. Please complete the following survey for your child(ren). One survey can be completed for each family:
