Arrival Safety
Please remember that morning arrival time at school can be chaotic and sometimes stressful. Here are a few important reminders:
1. Remember the speed limit in the parking lot is 5 mph.
2. Visibility is often challenging in the morning, and more so during stormy weather. Please observe and follow all directions given by crossing guards. This includes not driving around unloading cars; observing STOP signs; and not parking on a crosswalk.
3. Do not use the bus lane for drop off. This space is only for buses. They need to drop off and head to the secondary campus.
Thank you for doing your part to keep our students, staff, and families safe.

Emergency Response
We appreciate everyone's flexibility, patience and prompt response to our early release evacuation on Monday. Whenever we have an emergency response we debrief with school staff, district and local law enforcement to discuss what went well and what is needed to improve for next time.
Last Monday, Dec. 4th inservice day district administration had been in an all day training on emergency response and reunification procedures and were already working on updating processes. Monday reinforced the importance of these plans.
There are several important things each family can do in the event of an emergency or early dismissal. Keep in mind this could include a rapid response for a severe weather occurrence, power outage or possible threat.
1. Verify your child's registration is complete, contact information and messaging may not reach you if this is still unfinished.
2. Add any family or friend that you may have picking up your child in the event of an emergency, this will make the process go much smoother if they are already on your child's approved pick up list.
3. Discuss with your kids and family what the plan would be in the event there is an emergency and they are sent home or picked up early from school.
Corban Basketball Game Field Trip
Monday, December 18 Aumsville 4th and 5th graders will travel to Corban University to cheer on the women's basketball team as they take on Linfield University. Buses will leave at around 11:30 and be back at 2:00. Students will eat a quick lunch before getting on the bus. Permission slips went home this week and are due back December 6th. Below is a link to the permission slip.
Corban will also be hosting a basketball camp during winter break December 28-29. You can register using the link below. The camp includes grades 3-6!

How does your family stay active?
The 3-5 gym would love to display your student staying active outside of school! Our bulletin board features staff members and their families staying active and now we invite your student to join! We would love to display as many kids being active as possible. Photos can picture just your student or other friends/family members as well! You can send your student to school with a printed photo or email photos to swilkins@cascade.k12.or.us to add to the wall. Let's fill the bulletin board!
Read Every Day January Challenge
In January, grade alike classes will be competing to see who can read the most. The rules will remain the same for Read Every Day. You must read at least 15 minutes on 5 different days to count towards the goal. The class from each grade level who has the most students turn in a Read Every Day Reading Log, with at least 15 minutes of reading, on 5 different days will be selected to have a pizza party. To increase the likelihood of winning, read every day, for 5 days in a row, for at least 15 minutes, and immediately turn in your reading log after finishing. Get a new log and new books and start the process again for the whole month.
Good Luck to everyone and may the most dedicated readers win!
Volunteers
It truly takes an “all hands on deck” mentality to run a school effectively. If you are interested in volunteering in your student’s class, chaperoning a field trip, or helping out behind the scenes, please begin the background check process found here or on the Cascade School District website on the “parents and students” page.
The background check process takes two-four weeks, is completely free, and lasts for two years. We recommend completing this early in the school year so as to avoid delay.
You no longer need to provide proof of COVID vaccination in order to volunteer.
Compliment Corner
Too often we underestimate the power of a smile, a kind word, a listening ear, an honest compliment, or the smallest act of caring, all of which have the potential to turn life around. If you would like to publically compliment someone at Aumsville Elementary or a community partner at an Aumsville Elementary event, you may do so here.
The compliment will show up in the next Panther Periodical!
