Inspired by the twisted genius of Roald Dahl, the Tony Award-winning musical revels in the anarchy of childhood, the power of imagination, and the inspiring story of a girl who dreams of a better life. Matilda is a little girl with astonishing wit, intelligence, and psychokinetic powers. She's unloved by her cruel parents but impresses her schoolteacher, the loveable Miss Honey. Over the course of her first term at school, Matilda and Miss Honey have a profound effect on each other's lives, as Miss Honey begins not only to recognize but also appreciate Matilda's extraordinary personality. Matilda's school life isn't completely smooth sailing, as the school's mean headmistress, Miss Trunchbull, hates children and just loves thinking up new punishments for those who don't abide by her rules. But Matilda has courage and cleverness in equal amounts, and could be the school pupils' saving grace!

THE TIES Program is looking for student volunteers!
TIES (Together Including Every Student) is a program which promotes the participation of children and young adults who have developmental disabilities in extracurricular and community-based activities by providing effective, positive, student-specific support.
The Brighton School District is a long-time participant in this program. TIES matches trained student volunteers with participant students (aged 8 – 21), who have a developmental disability, so they can fully participate in activities. Our student volunteers provide more naturalized support for participants. Without this support, TIES participants might be unable to join activities¸ need parents to attend with them, or be unable to participate fully.
TIES is looking for Brighton student volunteers in grades 8 – 12 to join us. We provide extensive training including information about the importance of belonging, disability awareness, friendship building and effective support strategies.
If you are interested in having a positive impact – and a fun experience – please consider becoming a TIES volunteer.
The TIES Coordinator will be in the High school throughout the month of January during lunches and FLEX time to share information about the program.
In the meantime, if you would like more information or are interested in becoming a TIES volunteer, please contact:

What Every Parent and Caregiver Needs to Know About Fake Pills
https://www.dea.gov/sites/default/files/2022-11/DEA-OPCK_Parent%20flyer_V2.pdf
Fake prescription drugs like Percocet, Vicodin, Oxycodone, Xanax, Alprazolam, Adderall, OxyContin, and many more drugs used to treat pain and/or anxiety disorders can be made with lethal doses of Fentanyl and sold to teenagers for a cheap price.
Tips for Parents and Caregivers
- Encourage open and honest communication
- Explain what fentanyl is and why it is so dangerous (see attached article and refer to online articles below)
- Stress not to take any pills that were not prescribed to you from a doctor
- No pill purchased on social media is safe! Many teenagers are acquiring “prescription” drugs through social media. They think they have a Percocet or Xanax pill and they actually have a fake pill made with lethal doses of Fentanyl.
- Make sure they know fentanyl has been found in most illegal drugs
- Create an “exit plan” to help your child know what to do if they’re pressured to take a pill or use drugs
