Dear Greystone Parents/Caregivers,

May this holiday season bring you health and happiness. The first trimester of our 2021-2022 school year has been successful because of your continued partnership with our school community. Our students continue to collect food for those in need! Food donations have been made to the "Moms of Marieville" and the North Providence Police Department. Thank you for your support during the holiday season. Students continue to focus on thankfulness during the month of December.

Our district Distance Learning Plan was approved by the Rhode Island Department of Education. We are allowed to take up to 5 days for Distance Learning as needed for inclement weather (snow) and emergency situations. Students and teachers/staff are expected to be completing a school day "at a distance". It is considered a regular school day (just virtual) with synchronous (live instruction, and/or classroom meets, and/or drop in time) and asynchronous lessons (posted assignments, recorded material, paper/pencil tasks) and activities as we did last school year. The amount of screen time varies dependent upon age and independence level. Teachers will post assignments on their existing Google classroom and/or Class Dojo. We are aware that some students, the ones with the most significant disabilities, may require flexibility and creativity in collaboration with family support on the Virtual Days. The teacher will provide a combination of supportive lessons, engaging activities, and services that have been individualized per student’s needs. If you have difficulty connecting on virtual learning days, parents and students may contact their teachers through email or through the "Virtual Instructional Days Information email" at virtuallearning@npsd.k12.ri.us

Attendance is taken through Google Classrooms and/or Class Dojo each Distance/Virtual Learning day.

Inclement weather cancellations/emergency closure and the announcement of a Virtual Instructional Day(s) will be relayed through the school’s notification phone & email system, district website, and local TV/radio stations.

Congrats to our Golden Ticket Winner Mathias! Mathias won a $5000 grant for our school! In addition he has decided to donate $500 to the special education classrooms at Greystone!

During the school day, our tigers have an opportunity to earn PAWS! Students earn PAWS when they are respectful, responsible, and safe. Students who display positive character traits also earn PAWS. Each class collects their PAWS for two months. At the end of each month, two students are picked from each classroom PAW buckets. Cold Weather...

Please be sure to dress your child in warm clothing and have them wear a jacket, gloves, and hat! Students will be outside for recess if the "real feel" temperature is above 32 degrees. This can be cold in the morning and at recess without warm clothes!

Delays, Early Dismissal, & Cancellations...

• North Providence notifies parents/guardians of delays, early dismissals, and cancellations through our automated phone system and email system

• It would also be helpful to register with the RI Broadcasters Association at http://www.ribroadcasters.com/ in case our system is not working properly. Here you can register for text messages too.

• If school is delayed an hour, buses will still be transporting students to school but will arrive at the bus stop one hour later than your typical pick-up time; if school is delayed two hours, buses will arrive at the bus stop two hours later than your typical pick-up time

• If school is delayed an hour, our doors open to students at 9:40

• If school is delayed two hours, our doors open to students at 10:40

• If there is a morning delay our PREK morning session is cancelled; afternoon PK will be held

• Breakfast will be served even if there is a delay
