Stanley Stallion Update #9
2023-2024 School Year
From the Desk of the Principal...
Week of 11/27/23
I hope your Thanksgiving was filled with time for family and friends as well as some time to relax and enjoy good food and company! It was great to have a full house as it reminds me about what is important! We spent a lot of time over the holiday weekend playing games, laughing, eating and just spending time with one another. This is what the holidays are all about and I am very much looking forward to doing more of this over the next few weeks! I hope the same for all of you!
As was mentioned before, the weather is getting colder and it is important that students have the proper clothing to be outside for 30 minutes. We have noticed many students coming to school in shorts. Although it may get warmer at some point during the day, it is not warm enough for them to be outside for recess. If your child wants to wear shorts under or over their pants, this will help them to be prepared for recess. Thanks for your help with this. As a reminder, we do have a healthy supply of extra coats we can let students borrow, but as it gets colder it is important for them to be dressed for outdoors at the bus stop and when walking. If you are struggling to get winer attire for your child, please reach out to your child's teacher or to the office and we can see if we can help!
Our Holiday Concert will be on December 15th at 9:30 and 10:30. At 9:30 Grades 3-5, Band and Orchestra will perform. At 10:30 we ill have Grades K-2 perform. As a reminder there is no parking at Stanley as our space is very limited. We ask that you park at Nipper Maher Park and walk up to Stanley. Thanks for your cooperation.
Picture Retake Day is December 1st! Retake day is for new students and staff members, transfer students, or for anyone who may have missed the initial picture day, OR for anyone who was unhappy with their original picture and would like to give it another try. If a student would like the retake photo to replace the original photo, please have the student return the original picture package to the photographer on picture day. We will replace the original package at no additional cost. If this is the first time being photographed, just have the student/staff go to the camera and we’ll create a proof for them that will be sent to the school (and/or to their family email if we have that information). These proofs will be delivered approx. 4 weeks after picture day. An order code will be on the proof along with ordering instructions.
As A Reminder:
Here are the remaining November Spirit Days:

We still have some tuition based openings for our Pre-K programs. Please find information here: Integrated Preschool Information & Application
There are 3 more times throughout the school year that we will run a "different day" schedule. The only thing that will impact your child is what specialist they might have or support staff that might work with them. Here are the dates that we will run a different day schedule.

Important Information and Reminders from the Stanley Health Office
We have completed health screenings for Kindergarten through 5th grade and most of preschool. Vision and hearing are very important for learning and social development. If your child received a note with vision, hearing, or scoliosis referral please reach out to your pediatrician for recommendations for an eye doctor or audiologist. If your child does not have a pediatrician or if you need more recommendations for an eye doctor or audiologist please reach out to me at 781-314-5624 or via email at katiecormierdesrosiers@walthampublicschools.org
When your child goes for their appointment please make sure to have the doctor fill out the referral form and return the form to school. If your child is getting glasses or needs accommodations for hearing please notify the teacher and myself.
If your child is in preschool or kindergarten please be sure to send in an extra set of clothing that they can keep at school in case of an accident or spill. If you have an older student that is prone to spills please send in an extra set of clothing for them to keep at school. I have had to call parents to bring in extra clothes. The health office is running low on extra pants and underwear.
I am still missing physicals for 14 fourth grade students. Please send in a copy of your students' most recent physical. Any physical after August 28, 2022 will be accepted. If your child has not had a physical since August 28, 2022 please call your pediatrician and schedule an appointment.
Illness Reminders
Flu season is approaching quickly. Please consult with your student’s pediatrician regarding your student receiving the flu vaccine. Please monitor your child for signs and symptoms of illness. If your child has a temperature greater than 100.0 they need to stay home until they are without a fever for 24 hours without tylenol or ibuprofen. If your child has cold or flu symptoms it is recommended they are tested for covid and the flu. If your child tests positive for covid or the flu please notify me by phone or email.
Remember if your child is sick at school and needs to be dismissed early they need to be picked up within 1 hour. Please plan accordingly so someone is available to pick them up in the case of illness.

- The Department of Children and Families is seeking to keep Waltham children in their schools and communities. We want to ensure that when DCF assumes care and custody of a child, that child is able to remain in their school, with their friends and the adults that support them. In order to accomplish this, DCF is looking for Waltham parents who would consider becoming a short-term caregiver for a student in need at their child’s school. Please complete this brief survey if you are interested in participating or learning more. https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSdFpF-HviiDtALO9qtEglU65WxWos9Fq0C9BCy5FxkHKMGeRQ/viewform
