Principal's Message
Dear Edison Families,
Thank you for an amazing turnout at our Back to School Night! Say what you will about Zoom, it sure makes some things convenient. That said, we look forward to a time when we get back to something a bit more familiar.
Like so many of you, I believe that having actively engaged parents is critical to improving student achievement. Research shows that parent involvement improves student achievement. When parents are involved, children do better in school, and that is why our parent engagement initiatives are geared towards helping us increase parent involvement in all its forms --
Parenting
Communicating
Volunteering
Learning at home
Decision-making
Collaborating with the Community
One area that our staff has always been particularly proud of is the amazing fundraising support we get each year from so many of our families! As a reminder, all money raised is used to provide student field trips, assemblies, incentives for student achievements, intramural sports and instructional materials for our school.
Our phenomenal Parent Faculty Organization (PFO) spearheads our efforts each year and I am thrilled that we choose to provide our families experiences like Trunk or Treat, Ties and Tiaras Dance Nights and Rainbow Runs rather than cookie dough or candy bar sales to raise funds. This year is sure to see additional adjustments to our family engagement events but I look forward to and thank you for your continued support!
Oh and thank you for using the crosswalk -- I see you! And all of us here appreciate you putting safety first!
As always, I look forward to hearing from you. You are always welcome to connect with me, just call ahead and the door will open.
Sincerely,
Principal Lopez

Water Balloon Principal Lopez
We need your help. We are gathering information using this online form (https://wa1.omsd.net/lcff/) to help us qualify for more money here at Edison. Please be sure to complete this online form by no later than August 27 -- https://wa1.omsd.net/lcff/ . It’s pretty quick, is very important to our school, your child, and I am counting on you to help out.
If you need any assistance with filling out the form, please call our school office at 909-984-5618 and we will be happy to help you complete the form over the phone.
By completing the form, you will not only help our school continue to provide amazing opportunities for kids and greatly contribute to enabling us to better serve all of our families. Better still, you will give your child an opportunity to throw a water balloon at the Principal. Yup, you read that right, we challenged our Bobcats to get their form in and they’ll get a water balloon to throw at me. If their class gets 100% submitted we’ll let their teacher throw one too -- should be awesome :)
California PBIS Gold Award - Let’s Go!
Edison has once again been recognized as a Gold Level Award winner in California! The California PBIS Coalition recognizes schools each year for exceptional work with Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS) to improve the culture on campus for students and staff. PBIS is a process for creating safer and more effective schools, and we are fortunate here at Edison to have a hard working and committed team leading the development of our systems including: Mrs. Stearns, Mrs. Zajicek, Mrs. Birdwell, Mrs. Eberle, Mrs. Jennings, and Ms. Swanson. Special thanks to our PBIS Coach and Mentor Ms. Espinoza for leading our amazing PBIS team, and our amazing staff for implementing our systems school wide.
Students Presenting Symptoms at Home
In an effort to maintain a healthy school environment and to mitigate the spread of the COVID-19 virus, we ask that all parents screen their child for COVID-19 symptoms each morning before they send them to school, and keep them at home if they are sick using our Daily Checklist for Families.
This shared responsibility is critical to our ability to keep everyone safe, healthy and attending in person each day.
Please report your child’s illness with details of all symptoms to our health office at 909-984-5618. Our Health Office will follow up on all students that are at home with COVID-19 symptoms.
Middle School 6-8 -- What is School Loop?
School Loop is a communication app that allows parents and students to keep in touch with their Middle School teachers. School Loop keeps families and educators in touch regarding grades, homework, and Middle School related news.
It is more important than ever that our 6-8 grade families get connected to their child’s School Loop account. For our incoming 6th grade students and/or new 6-8 grade families to Edison, it is critical you sign-up for School Loop today, and be sure to download your School Loop app on your mobile device ( Apple | Android ) -- get started and sign up today -- https://edis-omsd-ca.schoolloop.com
If you need help connecting to your child’s account, or need their ID and PIN number please call the school office at (909)984-5618.
Contact Tracing: What happens when a school site is notified of a confirmed COVID-19 case of a student or staff member?
When we have a confirmed student case of COVID-19 and have exposed others at the school, the following steps (contact tracing) will be implemented with the support of our District COVID Action Team (CAT):
- The District COVID Action Team (CAT) will first determine who is a close contact or low-risk contact of the staff/student who tested positive and will determine if the person that tested positive was on campus during the infectious period.
- The District COVID Action Team (CAT) will work collaboratively with the San Bernardino County Department of Public Health (SBCDPH) on contact tracing and decisions made based on confidential reporting of the staff/student’s specific COVID-19 illness and infectious period.
- In consultation with SBCDPH, letters of notification for Confirmed COVID-19 cases will be sent to:
- Low Risk Contacts: all families in the impacted classroom. This notice would explain the confirmed case is isolating at home for the duration of the illness as specified by San Bernardino County Department of Public Health (SBCDPH) guidelines, and that all school areas where the case spent time will be cleaned and disinfected before they are in use again. Your child will continue attending class.
- Close Contacts: will receive notification that the contact was considered close and recommend home quarantine and COVID-19 testing. All cases must be cleared by the school nurse prior to returning.

Step 3: Update your information from the comfort of your home.

Thank you for taking care of this before Monday.
Social Media -- Communication
We use additional outlets like Twitter, follow us at @edison_academy, to share timely reminders, announcements, and even snippets or snapshots of learning and fun on our campus with you. These short messages are not intended to replace our other forms of communication but rather intended to add another layer of communication about Edison. So, while social media has proven to be a great tool for institutions like us to share reminders and snapshots of what’s happening here, it is not the best tool for us to use when it comes to discussing individual students or situations.
Thank you in advance for being mindful of student privacy and continuing to contact us directly; either in person, by phone, Zoom or email when you have any questions or concerns.
Reporting an Absence
Our absence reporting line is operational twenty-four hours a day, so you can call 909-984-5618 option 3 anytime. You may also email our Attendance Clerk, Mrs. Tilley directly at alma.tilley@omsd.net. Absences must be reported before 9:15 A.M.
