Irish Gifted Academy
Week of March 26th, 2023
From the Desk of Mrs. Methvin
Greetings IGA Family,
It has been an exciting week of learning at IGA! Students have learned many new concepts, reviewed previous learning, and explored new ideas. Teachers have completed district benchmarks in Reading (RI) and Math (MI). This data will be very beneficial as we continue to prepare for the Georgia Milestones Assessment (GMA). Additional information about GMA will be forthcoming. Also, report cards were sent home on Tuesday. If you have questions or concerns, please set up a Parent/Teacher Conference by contacting your child’s teacher.
We are anxiously awaiting next week. The week before Spring Break is always a busy but productive week. There are many fun activities planned throughout the week. As you prepare for Spring Break, please remember that Spring Break can be both fun and educational. Parents can encourage their child to do some pleasure reading and/or some free writing. Writing a story, poem, comic strip, or anything they want for that matter helps spur imagination and creativity. Before bedtime, parents can engage in storytelling with their child. Have your child make up a story and think of interesting ways to end the story.
If you are home with your children during spring break that would be a great opportunity to teach them about cooking and a healthy diet. In the process, you can teach your child more than just healthy eating. Not only will children learn about units of measurement, how to read and follow a procedure, but they will also learn how to include math into recipes, such as using fractions, adding, subtracting, and learning new vocabulary in the process. The most important activity of all is simply spending time together as a family!
