"Happy Holiday season VCSU KPE graduates! My name is Joe Deutsch (class of 1999) and I am a Professor of Physical Education Teacher and Coaching Education at North Dakota State University (NDSU) in Fargo. As the leaves began to fall in early October, I made my annual trip back to VCSU to present to the fall semester seniors, who are heading out the student teach in the spring, on various topics related to our physical education National and state associations (SHAPE America and NDSHAPE), as well as the Physical Best (Concepts-Based Fitness) Curriculum and health.moves.minds curriculum that focuses on Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) in the gymnasium. The students were very engaged, asked several questions, and even took the time to submit a proposal online to present as a group at the state conference that we have coming up in Fargo in February. I started out like most of you teaching physical education and coaching several sports. I was blessed to be able to earn my Masters and Ph.D. degrees while teaching fulltime and eventually got hired at NDSU. The year I was hired Dr. Sharon McCarriar invited back to present and I have had the honor of returning annually for the last 16 year. As you can probably conclude from the regular newsletters we receive, the students and the department are in very good hands with Dr. Kanae Haneishi. If you are ever back on campus, I encourage you to stop in and visit Dr. Haneishi in the Gaukler Family Wellness Center, where the program is now based. She has a deep appreciating for the alumni base and you are all a valuable part of why the program is so strong today. Stay warm and Go Vikings! Joe"

Implementing technology to enhace students' learning is a norm at KHP, such as virtual reality (VR), GoPro, Heart Rate (HR) monitor, swivel, CPR training manikin, digital whiteboard and many more. Our committment to the cutting edge technology continue at KHP!

Recently, students at KHP explore Alter G and GoReact. "The Alter G enables individuals to walk or run at a lower percentage of their body weight and perform rehabilitation with less pain. This is great for patients looking to gain mobility, strength, natural movement and fitness, while also minimizing stress on the body or on injury. The Alter G Anti-Gravity Treadmill uses air pressure to help unweight the patient." Students in HPER 444 Exercise Physiology are learning how to implement the Alter G for improving training and rehabilitation.

Undergraduate and graduate students in Physical Education use GoReact to enhance their teaching performance. "GoReact is a computer software for teaching performance-based skills. It is an interactive cloud-based platform for feedback, grading, and critiquing of student video assignments." In GoReact, teachers and/or peers can leave time-coded text, video, or audio feedback.
