The School District of Haverford is proud to announce that Ms. Christina Carter has been appointed the Director of Learning and Assessment. The Director of Learning and Assessment's responsibilities include assessing the effectiveness of instruction through data analysis and reporting; aligning, implementing, and analyzing the District's assessment program; implementing a plan for the effective utilization of instructional technology, and coordinating the district’s pursuit of diversity and inclusion.

Ms. Carter has over nine years of experience in education, most recently serving as an Elementary Principal in the North Penn School District. She identified and monitored Title 1 goals to improve student achievement by providing access to resources and opportunities for students to learn and grow. She coordinated home support and community resources for ELL and financially struggling families. Ms. Carter was a member of the Cultural Proficiency and Equity Executive Committee for the District, working to improve diversity, equity, and inclusion for students and staff around district goals.

In her roles as the District-wide Instructional Coach of Reading and Department Chair of Reading in the Upper Darby School District, she supported teachers in reading interventions and English Language Arts (ELA) across the district. She evaluated the effectiveness of the Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) and led professional developments on the topics of progress monitoring and fidelity of programs. Ms. Carter managed College and Career Data for the PA Future Ready Index submissions.

Ms. Carter earned a Bachelor of Science in Education from Temple University, a Master of Education from Cabrini University, and a School Leadership Program Certificate from the University of Pennsylvania Graduate School of Education.

“ I believe that all students can and will reach their fullest potential, but often need the barriers and obstacles removed preventing them from getting there. It's our jobs as educational leaders to identify the skills or resources students need to reach the potential we know that lives inside each of them,” said Ms. Carter.

Haverford Middle School students from the school art club created works of art, supervised by art teacher Janiene Kwoczak for the Discover Haverford Mayflower Project to brighten up windows in Haverford. The students were very excited to create a large-scale work of art and to have their artistic talent noticed by the community.

Discover Haverford (formerly known as HPED) is a partnership between Haverford Township, business and property owners, and Township residents. Board member Don Kelly and his wife Christine Kelly came up with the idea of bringing this to Havertown. Their hope is that this will draw the attention of the commuters to the businesses in the township. We have some really amazing businesses in Haverford Township and we would love for everyone to get to experience what we have to offer. Gina Ranieri, the owner of Plant Roots, organized the volunteers.

The Lynnewood Elementary School's Green Team Earth Day Week Committee, composed of 3rd, 4th, and 5th-grade students, planned events for Earth Day week. Some of the week's activities included morning announcements with GreenTeam tips that were researched and written by students, a Campus Clean-Up Day, all students were taught an Earth Day song called "This Pretty Planet" by Julie Reyes, and on Friday, April 22nd there was a Walk/Bike to School Day with Green Team members at the entrance passing out stickers!

Congratulations to business students Olivia Luistro, Nyla Downs, Chryselle Burgess, and Tatianna Bates! After an application and interview process, they have been selected to participate in the 2022 ACAP Summer Residency Program sponsored by the National Association of Black Accountants, Inc – Philadelphia Professional Chapter. The program will take place at Villanova University from Sunday, June 26, 2022 – Friday, July 2, 2022. The primary objective of ACAP is to increase the understanding of accounting and finance career opportunities among high school students from underrepresented ethnic groups. Through ACAP‘s efforts, students receive educational enrichment and practical help for college preparation and a career in accounting.

The School District of Haverford Township has been honored with the Best Communities for Music Education designation from The NAMM Foundation for its outstanding commitment to music education. Now in its 23rd year, the Best Communities for Music Education designation is awarded to districts that demonstrate outstanding achievement in efforts to provide music access and education to all students.

This is the 8th year in a row that we have received this honor. The District is one of 738 school districts in the entire country to receive the award.

School Principals’ Day is celebrated on May 1 annually to recognize the importance of principals, from elementary to high school, and all the work they do for the betterment of the school. We couldn’t have asked for a better team of leaders, thank you for your dedication! You are appreciated!

Teacher Appreciation Week is May 2-6, 2022. We are saying 'thank you’ this week, and throughout the year, to the extraordinary educators who have worked tirelessly with students and families to keep things moving forward, despite such an unpredictable year.

On Friday, May 6, 2022, we will celebrate the 10th Annual School Lunch Hero Day! School Lunch Hero Day is a chance to showcase the difference school nutrition professionals make for every child who comes through the cafeteria.
