Weekly Bulldog Bits
September 15th, 2023
A new way to get information weekly about Hirsch and our Bulldogs!
Start with HELLO week (9/18-9/22)
Help us celebrate our connectedness and inclusion. We can all begin to make a difference by saying HELLO!
Mon- Wear your favorite shirt
Tues- Dream of friendship and wear pajamas
Wed- Start talking and wear green
Thurs- Notice others and wear neon
Fri- Stay connected and wear blue/gold or your Bulldog Shirts!
Kindergarteners had their first week of extended day!
Our kindergartners had a great day learning their new routines. They end school at 1:45 now on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays! Fun times ahead!
8:20 Start of School and Tardy Bell
As a reminder, students need to be through the gates by the time the bell rings at 8:20 am. Arriving after the bell rings indicates a tardy. Please help our students create healthy habits!
Students may arrive at 7:45 to eat our school breakfast and the gate is open for all students to enter at 8:05. Make a plan to be on time with a healthy meal before school each day.
Hirsch is a Closed Campus
As a reminder, for the safety of our students and staff, all visitors (including past students and parents/guardians) must always check in at the office for a visitor pass. There is a large sign posted above the office with this message too. Appointments must be made in advance to meet with staff. We keep our students and staff safe and thank you for supporting this rule as we have students on campus between the hours of 7 am - 6 pm.
Bulldog Jog T-shirt Order Form
This paper came home this week (some today). Thank you to those who have already returned it. Please complete this quick sheet and return to your student's teacher by next Friday 9/22 so we can order a t-shirt for our December 1st Bulldog Jog! The form is also attached below.
Cell Phones and Smart Watches
This was mentioned at Back to School Night. We emphasize that cell phones and smart watches can be a large distraction and temptation for students, especially at the elementary grades. If your child wears a smart watch or carries a cell phone to school, your family must fill out this form and return it to school. Paper copies can be picked up in the school office. The form is attached below.
Grade 4/5 Basketball or Soccer
Will your grade 4/5 student be trying out for basketball in late October/early November and/or soccer in February/March? Please make sure to have your child's physical complete along with the forms attached below.
Additional Library Hours!
Students may check out library books before and after school beginning next week! Please make sure your student has told you they will be going to the library after school. You should park on the street and walk to pick them up outside of the gate if this is their plan.
Monday & Tuesday- After school until 2:50
Thursday & Friday- Before school beginning at 8:05
Be an important part of our school!
Do you want to be a part of our School Site Council? This is the most important committee we have at Hirsch as it approves our safety plan and also helps to make decisions about how we spend some of our site funds. We only hold four meetings a year on 10/16, 1/22, 3/18, and 4/22 from 2:45-4:15 pm. We even provide childcare if you need it to attend the meetings in person. If you are interested, please submit your name on the Google Form below. We need five parent/guardians and have one nominee so far. Have questions about joining SSC, please email Ms. Arroyo at carroyo@fusdk12.net.
iReady Student Scores (Grades 1-5)
Students in grades 1-5 are in the process of completing their Fall diagnostic exams in both reading and mathematics through a program called i-Ready. Results for these diagnostics are used by teachers to inform their instruction, and are not used in class grade calculations. At the conclusion of each diagnostic assessment window and when a student has completed their assessment, parents/guardians will have access to their student's diagnostic results through a "For Families" report located within the student's i-Ready dashboard. To download these reports, families will need the 2023-24 FUSD "For Families" report access code: L86Z6M. Please click here to download a comprehensive instruction sheet on how to download and interpret your student's "For Families" i-Ready diagnostic report.
PTA Corner
Join us next Friday 9/22 for Movie Night with a pre-game of chess! See the attached flyer for details. The webpage link will need to be typed.
