Huffman Headlines

Dear Huffman families,

It was so nice to see families in the building this week for parent teacher conferences. It felt like one more step towards "back to normal" and I hope that you enjoyed the chance to connect with your child's teacher. The school-family partnership is an important piece of creating a successful learning environment for students, and I appreciate you taking the time to meet with teachers.

Many families have asked about school plans for Halloween. Students should not wear costumes to school this week. As an alternative, we will be having a spirit day with Wacky Hair or Hats on Friday, October 29th! This will be a fun way for all students to show their school spirit. Our PTO will be sponsoring a Halloween Trunk or Treat on Saturday, October 30, from 3:00-5:00 pm, and this is a great opportunity for students to wear their costumes for all to see. Details are below.

Now that we have these short weeks behind us, we are looking forward to some uninterrupted instructional time before the Thanksgiving holiday, except for the day off for students on November 11. Our teachers are working hard to reach all students' needs and make up for any unfinished learning from the pandemic challenges. I am constantly impressed with their dedication and commitment to the job.

Huffman Elementary School

Our fabulous PTO will be hosting a Halloween Trunk or Treat event at Huffman on Saturday, October 30th from 3-5 pm. We are excited to bring this fun, free outdoor event to Huffman as an alternative to an indoor carnival this year. This will include:

• A lineup of fun decorated vehicles that you can visit to trick or treat
• Food truck, hot drinks, and popcorn available for purchase
• Prize awarded to Best Decorated Vehicle, and everyone gets a vote

We need your help to make this happen! There are several ways that you can help:

• Sign up to decorate your vehicle's trunk and be part of the lineup
• Donate a bag of candy to be distributed at the event (drop off in office this week)
• Popcorn tent helpers
• Temporary tattoo station helpers
• Clean up crew

Thank you for helping make a great event for our kids!

Please remember to make sure your child has gloves, hats, warm jacket and snowpants for recess and/or PE every day. We follow district guidelines to go outside until it is -10 degrees.

When your child is absent, please call our main office at 742-5650 option 1 to report the absence. Please give a brief reason for the absence, and please be honest. Due to COVID protocols, we will follow up with all students who may be experiencing symptoms. If you are out for appointments, a family trip, or something else that is not related to illness, it will save us a lot of time if you state that reason in your message. Thank you for doing your part to help keep our students safe and healthy at school.
