Weaver Lake Family Newsletter
April 2023
Message from the Principal
Greetings Weaver Lake Wolfpack,
Did your child(ren) come home talking about being in the Starlab this month? I hope so. It's very exciting and was purchased with the district and Weaver Lake PTO funds. It's going to be a incredible way for classes to learn together about a variety of subjects, including the stars and planets!
Included in this newsletter is an Intent to Return form. If you are a K - 4th grade family, please take the time to fill this out by May 5th. You should be able to fill out the form right from the newsletter - just keep scrolling until you come to the end. Otherwise here is the link to the the form. This will help us know who is returning to Weaver Lake and also allows you to share information about your child to help us make the best classroom placement that we can. We do our best to divide classrooms in a fair and equitable way. Thank you in advance for your trust in us that we will make the best decision for all.
As always, please let us know if there's anyway that we can support your child and family! I hope that all our scholars, families, and staff have an excellent spring break. We will be here waiting to welcome you all back on April 3rd!
With Warm Regards,
Lena Christiansen, Principal

STARLAB has arrived!
The STARLAB has arrived. Weaver Lake has purchased a STARLAB (blow up planetarium) with money raised from the PTO Fun Run this fall. On March 13, 14, and 15 every student and staff member at WVR had a chance to experience the dome for the first time. It was a HUGE success and students are asking to come back. The plan is for the dome to be used by every grade level three times a year alongside their STEM value-added project each trimester.
Art Residencies - Jen Gaab
We're excited for each grade level to have art residencies again this year sponsored by the Weaver Lake PTO!
Kindergartners and fourth graders have observational art lessons with Aki Shibata from MCAD. Fourth graders had her in September when they did drawings of macroinvertebrates in conjunction with their lake study. In April, kindergartners will be doing animal observations and watercolor creations.
Other grades will be working with Compas artists. First grade welcomes back Charlie Maguire to do song writing around their light and sound unit in April. Second grade will be taking part in creating flower sculptures with Anne Reid in March. In May, third graders will be doing story quilts in conjunction with their Spinning Earth unit. Also in May, fifth grade will work with Sara Hanson on a project connected to their ecosystem restoration study.
Friday Lunch Sign Up for Parents
Fridays are a chance for parents to sign up to come eat with their child in the cafeteria. Space is limited and parents are encouraged to only sign up once a month.
Please sign up for the grade level that your student is in. This will be the time you will be joining them for lunch.
- Reservations must be made at least 24 hours in advance.
- Parents will be allowed to have lunch with their child(ren) every Friday. Limit two guests per child.
- Because there is limited space for guests, we ask that parents sign up for a maximum of one lunch per month. You may sign up on the same day for your children in different grades.
- Cost of the school lunch for parents is $5.00 (please bring exact change!). You can use your child's lunch account if they normally pay full price for lunch. Free/reduced lunch families will need to pay for their meal using cash. The school lunch menu can be found here: https://schools.mealviewer.com/school/OsseoISDElementarySchools
- Please arrive 5 minutes prior to the start of the scheduled lunch time for your child(ren). If you are purchasing a school lunch for yourself, we ask that you go through the lunch line BEFORE students arrive.
- All parents are asked to be seated at a designated table. Your child(ren) will sit at that table with you after they have gone through the school lunch line (if needed).
- Parents joining their child(ren) for lunch are asked to clean up their area at the end of lunch.
- Please delete your reservation if you are unable to make it to allow for other parents to attend.
