Hello Schluter Families!

It was a great week here at Schluter! Our 3-5 students took their Reading STAAR test, and I am proud of their efforts. We also celebrated our students who placed in our UIL competition based on academic activities. We had so many students who placed within the top 6, across 8 schools! They worked so hard with their teacher coaches, and I'm proud of their hard work!

Our registration window has opened, so be sure to register for the 23-24 school year. Registering early helps us ensure that we are properly staffed next year. It's as easy as 1, 2, 3! Check out the graphics below for more information.

Next week is our Kindergarten Round-Up to begin welcoming our incoming Kindergarteners for the 23-24 school year! If you have an incoming Kindergartener, we can't wait to see you there! If you have a neighbor who has an incoming Kindergartener, please share this information with them!

Online enrollment is now open for the 2023-2024 school year, and families can complete an easy 1-2-3 process for returning students to quickly register their children.

Enrollment is now open for all children – pre-kindergarten and up – whether they are currently enrolled, returning to the district after leaving or brand new to Northwest ISD. For families of currently enrolled students returning next year, the process will take just a few minutes with the following quick, three-step process. Beginning May 1, no charges will be added to any meal account, meaning all meal accounts must have funds on the account or cash must be used. A courtesy meal will be offered if a meal does not have sufficient funds or cash. If a meal account has no funds or a negative balance, funds can be added at www.myschoolbucks.com.

Did you know that Northwest ISD offers a telehealth service for students? In addition to on-campus nurses, our district offers SchoolMed telehealth services for additional services. If voters approve Northwest ISD’s 2023 bond election, the tax rate would only change by one-tenth of a penny. Positive satisfaction scores led all categories and all questions, with top-scoring categories including communication, campus climate, safety and classroom instruction. Notably, the vast majority of families said both they and their students feel welcomed and treated with respect by schools, and families also overwhelmingly report that they say their children feel safe in schools.

Questions that resulted in a dissatisfaction score of 10% or more serve as growth opportunities for the district, and leaders will examine these areas for improvement. Some examples of areas for growth include responses to negative student behaviors and bullying. District leaders are already analyzing this data and planning improvements.

Families interested in requesting a campus transfer for their students for the 2023-2024 school year can do so until 5 p.m. Monday, May 15, through an online transfer form. All transfer requests are considered on a case-by-case basis, as each student’s request is unique.

Northwest ISD allows families to request transfers to another campus for the next school year during a window that opens annually on April 1. Transfers requests are subject to the capacity of a campus, as several schools are closed to transfers because they are near or over their designed student enrollment.

Making plans for the summer? Northwest ISD’s athletic and fine arts camps as well as enrichment opportunities are being posted for the summer at www.nisdtx.org/summer.

Northwest ISD’s comprehensive high schools – Byron Nelson, Eaton and Northwest – will each host their annual spring plant sales in April, providing students, parents and community members with the opportunity to buy inexpensive plants and benefit local education.

This year, all schools will host their plant sales for two days only. The annual sale will take place from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Friday, April 14, and from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 15. Sales will be conducted in each school’s greenhouse. Byron Nelson is located at 2775 Bobcat Blvd. in Trophy Club, Eaton is located at 1350 Eagle Blvd. in Haslet and Northwest is located at 2301 Texan Drive in Justin.

The Roanoke Public Library now offers free library cards to all Northwest ISD students and staff enrolled or working at any district campus. No guardian signatures are required for students 16 years of age or older who apply for a card. Cards must be renewed by October 1 annually. For more information, please visit the Roanoke Public Library's website.

Northwest ISD uses MySchoolBucks for meal accounts, and families can actively monitor their students’ available money or add funds to their accounts by visiting www.myschoolbucks.com.

Northwest ISD paraprofessionals are receiving an increase in their starting pay following unanimous approval by the school board! Beginning immediately, Beginning with this week’s paycheck, the minimum wage for an hourly Northwest ISD paraprofessional staff member will increase from $12.50 to $15 per hour. Additionally, the minimum wage for bus monitors will increase to $14 per hour.
