Safety Drills
In order to be prepared for an emergency while in the cafeteria, each grade level practiced a Lockdown Drill and a Fire Drill from the cafeteria this week. Students know where to hold while in the cafeteria in the event of a lockdown, and they know where they exit the cafeteria in the event of a fire.
School-Wide Reading Goal
Be sure to view the email sent from Mrs. O'Hair on Thursday, January 18th regarding our school-wide reading goal! Collectively, we are moving in a very positive direction in reading growth, and we want to keep going!
Habit Heroes
During the 4th six weeks, Shady Grove teachers will be looking for students who exhibit Steven Covey's Habit #4, Think Win-Win! This habit focuses on collaboration for mutual benefit! I win and YOU win!
Play it Safe
Play It Safe is a child safety program that educates children how to identify and prevent abuse and empowers children in grades Kinder-2 to practice safe behavior. This program also offers resources to help parents, caregivers and teachers protect children by teaching and practicing the 3-part rule of personal safety. Play It Safe was created by The Women’s Center of Tarrant County. This program has been presented to thousands of children in the Texas Hill Country since 2013. This information is presented through videos, workbook activities and classroom discussion.
What to Expect
Through age-appropriate stories elementary school students learn to recognize the three kinds of touch and are empowered with tools to respond using the 3-part safety rule if they are ever in an uncomfortable situation. This safety rule can be applied to many circumstances that students may encounter, such as bullying, online situations, peer pressure or exploitation by friends/family. The safety rule encourages assertive responses, whether it is used with strangers or someone the child knows and loves. The presentation format is classroom-based so that children are in a familiar environment and able to focus and interact freely. Each presentation lasts approximately 30 minutes and includes an age-appropriate interactive conversation with a 10-20-minute movie.
Families can also view more information at www.playitsafe.org.
Play it Safe presentations will be made on February 6th and 7th at SGE. Your child brought home an information sheet and permission form for the “Play it Safe” Program. Please sign and return this form as soon as possible. Contact the school counselor, Shannon Franklin, with any questions. sfranklin@burnetcisd.net or 512.756.2126

Attendance Incentive for the 4th Six Weeks!
The 4th six weeks is a clean slate and brings a new opportunity to earn the 4th six weeks incentive which is a Pop Party (popcorn, ring pops and soda pop)! Students who have no more than 1 absence OR one tardy earn the incentive!
SGE Attendance Tracking
SGE's ADA for this past week was 90.44%.
ADA stands for Average Daily Attendance and is defined as the total days of student attendance divided by the total days of instruction. "98 IS Great!", so 98% is our goal!
Notification of Student Absence
A parent must provide an explanation for any absence within 5 days of the student’s arrival or return to school. The student must submit a note signed by the parent. The campus may accept an email from the parent sent to the school’s attendance clerk, but reserves the right to require a written note. The form below will send an email to SGE's Attendance Clerk and then the campus will determine whether to classify the absence as excused or unexcused.
This information may also be found on the BCISD website:
Viewing Report Cards and Progress Reports
An important piece in the family-school partnership is staying aware of student performance. It is requested that parents view and electronically sign progress reports and report cards. See the directions below, and be sure to get those signatures in! In addition, parents are encouraged to regularly view grades in Skyward.
