Updates from Dr. Godbey
Happy Sunday to you all! I hope your weekend has been filled with relaxation or recreation! Here are few updates from the Principal's Office.
We are still in the process of getting more supplies to families. You will hear from us soon to pick up Makerspace Kits. They are being sorted this week by our Noon Duty Aides and Office Team. Math Kits are still on Backorder from the company, unfortunately.
Thank for your continued homeschooling efforts. I know that it's been a strain on families, and stress is high. My recommendation to us all is to take a collective, deep breath and remind ourselves that we are all doing our best in unforeseen, untrained circumstances. Once we return to physical schooling, we will all have a new appreciation for it. In the meantime, continue to communicate with your teachers. It's really tough for teachers to gauge workload, student understanding, lesson pacing, and student engagement. Let them know what is working. They really need to hear the positives. And, tactfully share what is difficult. We will get better together, as partners in this work.
Sincerely,
Dr. Becky Godbey

The American Disabilities Act
This year marks the 30th anniversary of the passage of the American Disabilities Act (ADA). On July 26, 1990, President George H.W. Bush signed the ADA into law; this landmark civil rights law affirmed the inherent dignity of every person, regardless of disability.
The ADA is a civil rights law that prohibits discrimination against individuals with disabilities in all areas of public life, including jobs, schools, transportation, and all public and private places that are open to the general public. The purpose of the law is to make sure that people with disabilities have the same rights and opportunities as everyone else. The ADA gives civil rights protections to individuals with disabilities similar to those provided to individuals on the basis of race, color, sex, national origin, age, and religion. It guarantees equal opportunity for individuals with disabilities in public accommodations, employment, transportation, state and local government services, and telecommunications. https://adata.org/learn-about-ada
"The A.D.A. helped open building doors, allowed us to earn an education and made it illegal to discriminate against a qualified person for employment. We should celebrate the strides we have made. But there is still work to do. The way society thinks about disability needs to evolve, as too many people view disability as something to loathe or fear. By changing this mentality, by recognizing how disabled people enrich our communities, we can all be empowered to make sure disabled people are included."

2020-2021 Backpack Program Sign-Up (Repeated)
CCUSD believes that no child in our district should go hungry or have food insecurities, especially on weekends when students don’t have access to school-sponsored breakfast and lunch. The Culver City Council PTA, in conjunction with CCUSD, provides students in need with a backpack filled with non-perishable food and snacks each week to ensure that every child can eat on the weekends.
