Mission Message from Mrs. Douglas
Dear Bosco Families,
What a beautiful gift you have given your children by choosing a Catholic education for them! We are so blessed to be able to share God’s love freely with each other and to be proud of our faith! There are so many things that I love about my job but being able to actively practice my faith in my daily work with students and staff is by far the greatest!
In this Advent season, my HOPE for our students is that they feel the love that God has for them by sending His only son to bear all of our sins. May each of them feel a sense of PEACE knowing that they are loved by God, their families, and all of us here at BCSS. I pray that they each feel the JOY that surrounds the Christmas season. Lastly, may they each share God’s LOVE by shining His light in the world!
THANK YOU for entrusting us to educate your children! May Advent bring each of you Hope, Peace, Joy, and Love!
In God’s love,
Mrs. Douglas

Calling all carpenters!! Our high school art classes would like to do a collaborate art project in the style of Louise Nevelson.
To make this project the most authentic we are in need of scrap unfinished wooden boxes. Sizes 6” x 6’ to 12” x 12”. With sides that are 2” to 3” tall.
They can be rectangular or square. We are needing eight this semester and more next semester. Boxes similar to these...
Here are some examples of finished projects!

In November, 25 Don Bosco High School students attended NCYC (National Catholic Youth Conference) in Indianapolis. During the long weekend, they experienced a vibrant Catholic community, live music, Sacraments, engaging speakers, and time for prayer. It was so empowering to see so many high school students participating at Mass and Adoration along with so many happy smiling faces. Please continue to pray for these students as they keep the fire of faith alive in their busy lives! Here are a few pictures from our weekend at NCYC!
Advent starts on December 3rd, together we can prepare, challenge and pray during this season.

Science Department
Hello everyone! My name is Katie Bergfeld and I am a middle school and high school science teacher.
This is my 6th year here at Don Bosco and it's my first time teaching Integrated Science! In the past, I taught high school Biology to the freshman students. I was so excited to be presented the opportunity to work with the high schoolers again after taking a year off focusing only on middle school. I am also so happy that I get to work closer with our other two high school science teachers, Mrs. Joens and Mrs. Nicholson!
In Integrated Science we have been focusing mostly on physics for the first semester. We have had lectures, assignments, hands-on activities, and labs over the topics of speed/velocity, acceleration, momentum, Newton's Laws, types of energy, and waves so far this year! We are going to continue to work through our physics unit and then transition to chemistry and maybe even some earth and life science afterwards!
I have very much been enjoying my time getting to be a high school teacher again and getting to work with a group of students who (almost all) had me as their middle school science teacher! :)
Here is a great video of hands-on science exploration and fun while learning about centripetal force!

Lighthouse Team to Help with Food Drive
Don Bosco High School is having a non-perishable food drive from December 4th-7th. Each day will serve a different purpose in terms of what items to bring.
On the 4th bring canned goods.
On the 5th bring boxed goods.
On the 7th bring any toiletry items.
A competition between the Don Hour Advisories will be held for this food drive with a reward for the top class! Students will bring their items in the morning and drop them off in their advisory box, which will be right by the front entrance. The winner of the contest at the end of the three days will receive an out-of-uniform day as a reward for their donations!
We hope to see many students supporting this wonderful cause!

Give the Gift of Catholic Education
Education Savings Accounts, ESAs, have given parents a choice in their child's education. Catholic education is becoming more affordable for families. For more than 35% of families, the Our Faith Student Tuition Organization, or STO, is the first piece of financial assistance income qualified families rely on.
Even with the ESA's this year, more than 3100 students in the Archdiocese of Dubuque received more than $5.5 million in tuition assistance from the STO.
Iowa taxpayers that donate to the STO receive a 75% Iowa tax credit, or 75 cents back for every dollar you contribute on your Iowa tax return. The 75% STO tax credit is the only tax credit of its kind, and it reduces the amount of taxes you pay to the state of Iowa at tax time. Claim your tax credit by making a donation today! If you want to learn more about how to turn your taxes into tuition, call the school office or go to OurFaithSTO.org.
