The Leader In Me - The 7 Habits of Happy Kids
HABIT 6 - SYNERGIZE
Synergize is when two or more people work together to create a better solution that either would have thought of alone. It's not your way or my way, but a better way. Synergy is taking good ideas and making them better by working together. Discussions can focus on other examples of synergy in nature, history, literature, and personal experiences. For example, synergy happens in nature when a flock of geese heads south for the winter. They fly in a V formation because due to the updraft, the entire flock can fly farther than if each bird flew alone.
At Home Ideas
With your children, choose a problem you may have like completing chores or putting away toys. Together, define the problem and each of you share your views and share solutions. Choose the best solution together. See if you can reach a better solution than either of you would have come up with alone.
Institute a "15 minute program" where everyone drops what they are doing and pitches in to work as a team to clean the kitchen, pull weeds in the garden, wash the dishes, sweep the front porch, etc. Cutting out a small block of time where everyone helps makes the work go quicker.

Health Tips From Nurse Anna!
Handwashing is one of the most effective ways to help prevent the spread of germs. It’s never a bad time to teach (or reteach!) kids proper handwashing procedures. Here are 5 simple steps to make handwashing easy and fun to remember:
WET your hands with water.
LATHER your hands with soap.
SCRUB your hands for 20 seconds. Singing Happy Birthday twice, The ABC song and Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star are all songs that can be sung while scrubbing. Remember the back of hands, between fingers and under fingernails. Germs are good at hiding!
RINSE your hands under running water.
DRY your hands with a clean towel.
Be a good role model. Kids look to the adults around them to set the standard. By washing your hands frequently throughout the day with the proper technique, sets a powerful example and shows that you think the habit is important.
Remind them often to wash their hands. It’s easy to remember when you see the dirt on your hands, but germs are invisible to the naked eye. Prompt them throughout the day to wash their hands especially before eating, after using the restroom and after blowing their nose.
Good hand hygiene will help combat the common illnesses that we see in the fall/winter months. Currently we are seeing the common cold, a stomach virus, pink eye and fall allergies.
Thank you for all that you do to keep our students safe and healthy.
Enjoy the beautiful fall weather,
Anna Robinette, RN
