Arya Vasudevan – 2nd Oratory, 8th Informative Speaking
Ananya Agrawal – 8th Oratory

Special shout-out to Rishabh and Arya, who took the top two places in Oratory for the second year in a row. They finished in 1st and 2ndlast year as 9th graders, and repeating that finish is nothing short of amazing.
Middle School Speech/Drama Workshop: May 17th
The BVW Debate/Forensics program is hosting a speech and drama workshop, taught by West coaches and competitors, May 17th from 3:30-6:00pm. This is open to any student in 5th-8th grades, with an enrollment fee of $50/person. All proceeds help send our students to nationals in Phoenix this summer! See the attached flyer for more info. Sign up here.
Middle School Summer Opportunities:
There are several opportunities for middle schoolers and incoming ninth graders to learn more about speech and debate. If you have middle schoolers at home, please consider these summer camps:
KSU Summer Steam – This summer program offers several virtual STEAM courses, including speech and debate courses which I teach. This is a great opportunity for students who want to explore speech and debate, learn how to build arguments, and strengthen their writing skills.
Sunflower – The Sunflower Debate camp at KSU Olathe also offers summer speech and debate classes, also taught by me. This is a great opportunity for incoming 9th graders who want to meet me and get a jump start on the season, or younger students who want to learn about debate!

BVW Red Zone Golf Tournament
SAVE THE DATE – JULY 21, 2023!
The Blue Valley West Red Zone is excited to host the annual golf tournament and auction, Friday, July 21, 2023, at Ironhorse Golf Club. We hope you can join us for a fun day of golf to benefit the Blue Valley West High School Jaguar football program.
It’s going to be a great day as current, past and future Jaguars as well as members of our community compete for prizes while supporting the football team. All levels of golfers are welcome!
All proceeds of this four-player scramble will go directly to the football program.
This is the Red Zone’s only fundraiser of the year. In the past, funds raised have helped purchase weight room equipment, new helmets and uniforms, stadium signage, team dinners and much more!
Even if you don’t play golf, we welcome anyone to come and take a look and bid on auction items that will be displayed in the Ironhorse Clubhouse the day of the tournament.

JOCO Resource Numbers
Numbers you need to know
Last July, the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline (1-800-273-8255 or 1-800-273-TALK) transitioned to a three-digit dialing code, 988. The three-digit dialing code routes calls to the Lifeline network and provides a connection to local support and services for those experiencing a mental health crisis. Johnson County Mental Health Center began answering Lifeline calls as a part of the national network in August of 2021.
In its first five months, the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline received over 1.7 million calls, texts and chats. Federal government data shows a significant increase in calls, texts and chats from December 2021 to December 2022. To learn more about the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline, check out our Mental Health Moment—a weekly newsletter that opens dialogue, increases understanding, and removes some of the stigmas surrounding mental health issues where we’ve prepared hot, warm and crisis lines for you to add to your contact list. We all need some help sometimes, and it’s okay to reach out.
