New: April 5 Digital Learning Day Grades 9 & 12
Dear Eastview Learning Community,
Our Eastview students will be taking the ACT, PreACT and Bilingual Seals tests Tuesday, April 5, 2022. This is an important day and opportunity to assess our student learning and help our students prepare for their college and career plans following graduation. Below is some important information for you about the day:
• Students in grade 10 will sit for the PreACT exam at Eastview High School.
• Students in grade 11 will take the ACT exam at Eastview High School.
• Students in grade 9 will have a Digital Learning Day at home using Schoology for their courses.
• Students in grade 12 who are not taking a Bilingual Seals exam will have a Digital Learning Day at home using Schoology for their courses.
DIGITAL LEARNING DAY
Students in grades 9 and 12 (students not taking the Bilingual Seals exam) will stay at home and be expected to engage in a digital learning day, using Schoology and their district-issued iPad to complete assigned learning for the day.Teachers will be supervising our exams and will communicate the time they will be available for digital office hours for student questions and support during the day (after the testing is completed). Not having students in grades 9 and 12 at Eastview on April 5 will help provide an optimal testing environment for all of our 10th and 11th grade students (and 12th grade students taking the Bilingual Seals exam), limiting potential disruptions and making available the maximum number of staff to help proctor the tests.
For all 9th and 12th grade students engaged in the Digital Learning Day, an optional, quiet, supervised learning environment will be available at Eastview for students who wish to be at school that day. This is for students who need stable WiFi, a quiet, focused learning environment or meals that will be provided for breakfast and lunch.
SPECIAL EDUCATION STUDENTS
Students receiving special education services will either participate in one of the tests, engage in the Digital Learning Day, or attend a regular schedule of center-based classes on April 5. Case managers will work with students and parents to ensure appropriate arrangements and accommodations.
10th, 11th Students and 12th Gade students taking a Bilingual Seals Exam
For most students the ACT and PreACT tests will conclude at about 11:30am. The Bilingual Seals tests will extend beyond 12:00pm. Students will have the option to eat lunch and remain at school until the end of the day in a supervised learning setting or can leave school after they have completed testing.
TRANSPORTATION
Our school bus routes will run on our normal schedule on Tuesday, April 5.

Principal
Eastview WIN Time on Wednesday Afternoons in the Learning Commons
Every Wednesday students can benefit from an opportunity for academic support from 2:45pm – 4:15pm in the Learning Commons. Students are supported to complete their schoolwork learning in a supervised setting. Faculty and staff are available along with upper-class peer tutors (especially skilled in Mathematics). Students will identify their priorities (“What I Need” or “What’s Important Now”), create a plan for the most efficient use of their time, celebrate their accomplishments, and leave with a plan for continued success. Students do not need to sign up in advance for WIN Time. We do ask that students plan to be there for the start at 2:45pm so they can benefit from the full support. We will keep a log of students and their engagement (arrival/departure time and their focus/work while they are there). For students needing transportation home, activity buses will be available departing at 5:15pm.
The final day of Quarter 3 is Friday, April 8.

Students should stop by the Counseling Office and get a pass to attend the college/university/military Rep Visit prior to the right visit. New: Greta Thomas - 2022 National Speech & Debate Association Central Minnesota Coach of the Year
Congratulations to Greta Thomas for being named the 2022 National Speech and Debate Association Central Minnesota Coach of the Year. Greta is the co-head coach of our Eastview debate team and is an assistant speech coach. This past year alone, Greta has coached two teams to the NSDA national tournament in debate and also coached two teams to the MSHSL State finals in debate.
One of Greta’s Eastview colleagues notes that “Greta has created a team environment where beginning students feel welcome and advanced students feel challenged and supported.”
A coach from another school who nominated Greta wrote "Greta has served as a mainstay of the speech and debate community during her tenure as head coach this year. From offering her support to other schools to supporting new coaches, Greta has consistently made clear that she is willing to give her time and energy to see our forensics community flourish. While managing her extremely successful team, Greta still volunteers her time for scrimmages, judges, and coordinating with other coaches to ensure that everyone in this community feels welcomed and supported."
Congratulations, Greta!
