Students & Parents
Friday Message
I hope you had an incredible holiday season. We are fully back in the swing of things at Magnolia West. We welcomed over 2300 students back on Monday, and that number continues to grow. High schools are always at their busiest in the spring with all of the activities and events. If your child is involved in one or more activities, please keep reminding them to keep up with their academics.
Reminders/Notifications:
1) We are having an issue with car riders being dropped off in the back of the school where buses unload in the mornings. Buses begin arriving at 6:20AM. Please know that all car riders should be dropped off in the front of the school. It becomes extremely dangerous for students, parents, and bus drivers when people add to the high volume of traffic we already have in the bus drop off area.
2) Monday, January 15 is a student holiday. We will not have school.
3) There is impending inclement weather headed our direction. Please monitor Magnolia ISD's social media and district website for any announcements regarding changes to our regular schedule.
4) It is my understanding that Old Hockley road will be closed beginning January 18 (next Thursday). That could impact some of you and our students when trying to get to Magnolia West.
5) We will begin Saturday school next Saturday (January 20). This is a great opportunity for students to get additional help on their Edgenuity courses and gain hours in credit recovery.
6) All students (9th -12th) begin this semester eligible for spring final exam exemptions. One of the major components for retaining eligibility is attendance. Students can have no more than 3 absences. Please encourage your student to work diligently to maintain their exemption status as we progress through the semester.
You can reach me anytime at jmorley@magnoliaisd.org
Thank you,
Jason Morley

National Assessment of Educational Progress
What is NAEP?
The National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP), often called The Nation’s Report Card, is the largest nationally representative and continuing assessment of what students in public and private schools in the United States know and are able to do in various subjects. Since 1969, NAEP has been a common measure of student achievement across the country in math, reading, science, and many other subjects. Depending on the assessment, NAEP report cards provide
national, state, and some district-level results, as well as results for different demographic groups.
NAEP is a congressionally mandated project of the National Center for Education Statistics (NCES), located within the U.S. Department of Education’s Institute of Education Sciences.
NAEP data are also used in special studies conducted by NCES. These have included comparisons of proficiency standards across state assessments; insights from high school transcripts,
including courses taken and credits earned; and in-depth looks at how different demographic groups perform across different types of schools.
