The Passover
Who protects you?
God had told Moses to go to Pharaoh and demand that he let God’s people go. But Pharaoh was not about to lose all his slave workers. God knew that Pharaoh would harden his heart. God told Moses that soon all Egypt would know that He is the one true God by the plagues He would send on Egypt. The cycle of plagues went like this: God told Moses to demand Pharaoh let His people go. Pharaoh refused. God sent a plague. Pharaoh repented and promised to let the people go. God took away the plague. Pharaoh hardened his heart and refused to let the people go. After plagues of blood, frogs, gnats, flies, dead livestock, boils, hail, locusts, and darkness, you would think that Pharaoh would finally give in! But just as God has prophesied, Pharaoh hardened his heart all the more. It would take one final devastating plague to finally move Pharaoh’s heart.

Talk about it
- What final plague did God send to convince Pharaoh to let His people go?
- What did God tell the Israelites to do so that the angel of death would pass over their houses?
- How has God saved us?
God used the final plague of the death of every firstborn child and animal in Egypt to convince Pharaoh to release His people.
God provided a way to protect His people from the death of the firstborn: they were to sacrifice a lamb and paint the blood of the lamb on the top and sides of their door.
God sent His Son, Jesus, to die on the cross to pay the punishment for our sins. The blood of the Passover lamb pointed ahead to the sacrifice of Jesus, the Lamb of God, on the cross.
