In an effort to assist school districts in implementing safety initiatives more effectively, Region 3 will provide relevant school safety guidance, resources, training opportunities, professional development, technical assistance and TEA updates.

• Withdrawal of Proposed New 19 TAC Chapter 103, Health and Safety, Subchapter EE, Safe and Supportive School Program and Trauma-Informed Care Policy and Training (February 2020)

TEA will be extending 2019-2021 School Safety and Security Grant period to 05/31/2022.

This grant provides funding to public schools for additional safety and security equipment (campus hardening).

Districts should collect and maintain SSSP team information and data for the 2020-2021 school year for activities that occurred from September 1, 2020 through August 31, 2021.

TEA will send a Qualtrics survey requesting information to Superintendents in November 2021.

EOPs and Annexes can be requested at any time by Texas School Safety Center. The Texas School Safety Center will be taking a deeper dive into these plans this year.

Texas School Safety Center is offering the Advanced Digital Threat Assessment Training that will build and expand significantly on the skills gained in the Basic Digital Threat Assessment training. Participants will leave with a concrete understanding of how to find and curate relevant digital information as is typically represented in a real-life digital threat assessment data gathering scenario. Region 3 ESC will be hosting a virtual 2 day summit that will showcase sessions related to school safety and the safe and supportive schools program (SSSP from SB11). Topics will include updates on SB11 and SSSP, school mental health initiatives, suicide prevention and intervention, digital technology concerns, bullying prevention, maintaining safe schools, cyber-safety, human trafficking, and much more!

The traumatic effects of childhood relational trauma and emotional neglect are significant. Neuroimaging of the brain reveals how our fundamental needs for love, connection, safety and nurture are distorted when those we are programmed to depend on hurt us or treat us without emotional warmth. The outcomes are severe: those who have experienced childhood trauma can remain affected for years, cycling through depression, isolation, addiction, eating disorders, anxiety, insomnia, risk-taking behaviors, self-loathing behaviors and self-neglect. Objectives:

• Recognize two signs of childhood maltreatment in clients with eating disorders and/or substance use disorder.
• Explain the link between childhood emotional neglect and maladaptive coping behaviors in adults.
• Identify two skills to use when assessing patients for childhood trauma and emotional neglect.
