Welcome to our 2023-2024 School Year! Go Dolphins!
Principal's Message
What an awesome week! It was such a pleasure to have our students back in school. We connected our students with their teachers and classes and they got to know their classmates. Our students learned our school-wide expectations, practiced routines, and contributed to creating our classroom communities. Our priority this week has been relationship-building, helping students learn structures and systems, and creating a powerful start to the year.
In classrooms, students learned about friendship, how to make friends and be a friend. They learned about book levels and picking just right books to read; they also started building their reading stamina. They started their writing and math, and they had a chance to go to music, PE, art, and library. What a start it was!
Thank you to all of our parents and guardians for your partnership! We appreciate that so many of you were able to attend our Open House last night! We had over 500 people who attended! Our teachers really enjoyed the chance to connect with all of you. So good to meet you and begin working with you as we start the year. If you missed our Title 1A presentation, pictures of the SlideShow are included at the end of this Newsletter.
As always, please feel free to send your questions or feedback to us at teresa.alfaro@woodburnsd.org or pmcdougal@woodburnsd.org. Go Dolphins!
Sincerely,
Teresa Alfaro - Principal

Ideas for Parents: Conversations With Your Student
After school each day, we encourage you to check in with your student to find out how it went. Some students are ready to talk right away, others may need a little time before they're ready. As a helpful guide, here are some questions you might consider, perhaps picking one or two each day.
- What made you smile today?
- What’s something new that you learned?
- What was something interesting that happened?
- Who is someone who helped you today?
- What are you most proud of today?
- What students did you spend time with today?
- Who did you sit with during lunch?
- What did you do during recess and who was with you?
- What did you learn during (math, reading, etc.)?
- What was the most difficult thing that happened today?
- If you could change one thing about today, what would it be?
- What’s something that you’re looking forward to getting to do tomorrow?
