Dear Rabbit Creek Community,
Dine to Donate is happening next Tuesday from 4:00-8:30pm at our wonderful South Anchorage Texas Roadhouse. This wonderful event allows the Rabbit Creek community to take over the restaurant to fill each table with our families and friends! Each table that mentions supporting Rabbit Creek will have 10% of their meal price be donated to our school!! And...it is just plain Fun!! to see everyone outside of school! I hope you will plan to join the event!
ASD and our School Board have made the decision to spend the 23/24 school year completing the 6th grade to the middle school model a two year model. This change to a middle school model will impact many different departments, to include transportation, curriculum and planning, IT, Student Nutrition, boundary zones, and more. District staff will work during next school year to complete planning for implementation, with all sixth grade students moving to the middle school model in 24/25. This is good news for us as we get another year with our 5th graders!!
Another topic currently being discussed at the district and School Board level is that of adjustments to the school start times for elementary, middle and high schools. The district consultant shared information with Elementary Principals on Thursday including research on an earlier start time for those in grades PK-6. When elementary students have started school earlier (8:00am is in the proposal), students have achieved better academic results, have better attendance, and have had higher graduation rates. Middle and high school students who moved to a later start time experienced health benefits to include less depression, fewer medical visits, less caffeine use, and fewer negative benefits. There is a South High School Community Forum scheduled for Wednesday, March 22nd at 6:00 pm to learn and share information about the school start time changes. This in person meeting would be great for all families to attend.
Thank you to our wonderful parent community and PTA for the lunches provided for staff Thursday and Friday of this week!!! You are wonderful to our team and it's greatly appreciated!!

URGENT need for Noon Supervisors
Rabbit Creek has had only one full time noon supervisor this year and she's ended up being a substitute teacher for us on many occasions which keeps her from being outdoors. We have 2 additional noon supervisors who work a day or two a week. Other times are covered by our specialists and kindergarten paraprofessionals. Even with these staff providing the additional support, we are often shorthanded.
If you have availability to join our noon team one or two days a week, it would be GREATLY appreciated! If you have friends or neighbors who would be interested in working with our team, please share the job number or have them give us a call! The job number for this temporary position is #12644, with anyone applying to note Rabbit Creek as a school of choice for work.
Thank you for considering joining our team!
Sledding fun with Mr. Ring and Ms. VanderMartin's classes

Hello Rabbit Creek,
Just a reminder that February Healthy Futures logs are due very soon next Tuesday February 28th. If possible, please turn them in on time on Tuesday.
Please turn in the completed February Healthy Futures logs to Mr. Nees or Mr. Pemble in PE.
March Healthy Futures logs will be distributed soon to students.
We have additional copies of the Healthy Futures logs. If any students need one, please come see Mr. Nees or Mr. Pemble or grab one from our extra log envelope by the main gym entrance.
I have also attached a link to a downloadable version of the Healthy Futures logs.
Here is a brief overview of the Healthy Futures Log Challenge:
Alaska children in kindergarten through sixth grade can complete the Challenge. Students keep a log of their daily physical activity and need to be active at least 60 minutes a day for 15 days each month. This helps Alaska children get closer to the national recommendation of 60 minutes of physical activity every day for the best health..
Students write down the names of the activities in the boxes for the days they are physically active for at least 60 minutes. (They can simply write the names of the activities, for example: skiing, running, ice skating, soccer practice, shoveling snow, recess, PE ) They can log the time spent doing the activity as well if they wish, although this is not required.
At the end of each healthy futures challenge month students can turn in their completed log during PE and earn healthy futures prizes, and a grand prize drawing ticket.
The grand prize drawing at the end of the year for students will include a menu of fun items, such as: spike ball, ladder ball, a disc-golf set, and a healthy futures hoodie.
Please contact Mr Nees or Mr. Pemble if you have any questions,
