From Mr. Croyle and Mr. Murtha
Lots of happenings this past week at Mill Creek!...
Our daytime and evening performances of our Winter Music Concert occurred on Wednesday, December 20. Our incredibly talented strings and band students shared Holiday and Seasonal music that were a perfect part of this time of year. Great job, Mill Creek musicians! Also, special thanks to Ms. Hartzell and Mr. Robinson (along with some help from Ms. Mudry) for all the work they do to maintain and promote such strong young musicians at Mill Creek!
Our Holiday/Seasonal Door Decorating Contest winners were announced. Winning doors were:
- Most Artistic - Ms. Zachmann
- Most Creative/Original - Ms. Cronin
- Most Humorous - Mr. Courtney
- Most "Extra" Door - Support Staff

Thanks to all who participated. All the doors were amazing and festive!
On the afternoon of Thursday, December 21, Mill Creek Classrooms held their annual Classroom Winter Holiday Celebrations - a great time for all!
The morning of Friday, December 22 brought a trifecta of events! The morning started as we welcomed back retired Mill Creek Staff Members, all of whom have left positive legacies here. We were thrilled to welcome back Mr. Chapman, Ms. Hillis, Ms. Jansen, Ms. Mahan, Mr. Molenari, Ms. Schubert, Ms. Sherenian, and Ms. Wodyka. We were thrilled to have you return!
Our retiree breakfast let into our Decmeber "Magic Show" assembly. The assembly was kicked off by 6th Grade student, Tetiana Kostiuk, leading the room in a "Creekers' Code... Let's Go" chant. Then, we picked Creekers' Code ticket winners out of our giant bin and handed out t-shirts. The following students were our lucky (and deserving) recipients:
- Kindergarten - Luke Z.
- 1st Grade - Mila L.
- 2nd Grade - Evie S.
- 3rd Grade - Eric S.
- 4th Grade - Alexa S.
- 5th Grade -Kara L.
- 6th Grade - Zoey P.
AND
- 4th Grade student, Jackson Nghiem, had his "Magic Ticket" pulled, and he will be enjoying lunch on Mr. Croyle!
In addition, the following students were individually recognized...
- 2nd Grade student, Srinika B., was recognized as our Creekers' Code Character Counts Award winner for E - Effort.
- 3rd Grade student, Nash M., received the We Salute You Award.
- 5th Grade student, Zarina Shamsieva, received December's Portrait of a Graduate Award - Resilient Leaner.
We were excited to have family members of some these students join us to help celebrate them as they were recognized!
Our two retiring staff members, Ms. Budniewski and Ms. Felsoci-Mattia, were also recognized for all they have done for the Mill Creek Community these many years!
Finally, the third component of our trifecta morning occurred as the entire school participated in a fun and seasonal Holiday Sing! The energy was high and the songs were aplenty!
As we head into Winter Break, we want to wish every Mill Creek Community Member a joyous and restful break full of family and fun. We hope those Community Members who recently celebrated Hanukkah had eight nights of light and love. We wish our Community Members who will soon celebrate Kwaanza a time full of peace, love, and unity, and we wish those Creekers who celebrate Christmas the merriest and happiest of Christmastimes!
See you in 2024!

Instructional Spotlight - Mr. Martin, 3rd Grade
During a visit to Mr. Martin's classroom this past week, students were in deep debate about a story they were reading in Scholastic News - does the Loch Ness Monster really exist? This included use and understanding of some high-level vocabulary words, such as "myth." These savvy 3rd Graders were coming up with some pretty impressive hypothesis, including the possibility that some creature who descended from dinosaurs roamed the lake (they also learned the "loch" is the Scottish word for lake) within the past century. Most of the class seemed to conclude that if there was a Loch Ness Monster, it no longer inhabits the lake. However, there were a few holdouts who think there is a reasonable chance "Nessy" still calls Loch Ness his/her home!
