Dear Father Doyle Families,

I pray you're able to enjoy these last few weeks of summer and, prior to the return to school, find some time for rest and leisure. Writer Josef Pieper defined leisure as "celebrating the end of work by allowing our inner eyes to dwell for awhile upon the reality of God's creation." I've always found this definition to be particularly beautiful, and I hope you can take a moment in the remaining days of August to pause and enjoy God's creation, whether that be nature, family, friends, or some other little joy in your life.

As we gear up for the return to school, information regarding our Back to School Events was sent to families via email on Monday. You can find the full memo with details for all four events here. In addition, check out the image below for a quick snapshot of upcoming events:

As previously communicated, there are two portions of our Back to School Night program. First, parent(s)/guardian(s) visit their child’s classroom. During this time, you are invited to drop off your child’s school supplies so they do not have to carry all supplies with them on the first day of school. Teachers will also provide information regarding their classroom, policies/procedures, instructional content, etc. for the upcoming year.

In order to accommodate families with children in multiple grade levels, there will be two classroom visit sessions. The first session will begin at 6:00pm and the second session will begin at 6:20pm.

Families with two students in separate grade levels should plan to attend the first session at 6:00pm for their older child and the second session at 6:20pm for their younger child. Families with only one student in the school should plan to attend ONLY the session beginning at 6:20pm and then continue to the presentation with Fr. Woolley and Mr. Peloquin. Families with three or more children in the school will receive additional communication regarding the timing for their sessions.

Lastly, please note that the middle school teaching team will be presenting together. Therefore, middle school parent(s)/guardian(s) only need to attend one classroom visit session with the entirety of the middle school team.

Following the 6:20pm classroom visit sessions, Fr. Woolley and Mr. Peloquin will be giving a brief presentation for all parent(s)/guardian(s) beginning at 6:40pm in the Church Hall.

Finally, unfortunately, we are not able to provide childcare during our Back to School Night program. Because all faculty participate in the Back to School Night events, we are not able to adequately staff a childcare program. We appreciate your understanding.

Our Youth Group will continue through the summer months. Open to all students entering grades 4-8, and, for the summer, those students who have graduated 8th grade from FJVD.

Our next Youth Group meeting is this upcoming Wednesday, August 16th, beginning at 6:15pm.

As a reminder, the evening begins at 6:15pm and consists of approximately 20 minutes of guided prayer, music, and reflection in the Church, followed by social activities for students. Youth group concludes at 7:30pm, with pick-up outside of the school gym.

The 2023 Cross Country season is right around the corner!

Is your student entering grades 4-8? Are they interested in running cross country? You can register for the team by completing the form here. No previous experience needed!

Please note, students in grades 6-8 compete in CAL sanctioned meets. Students in grades 4 & 5 may participate in independent meets and practice with the team.

Lastly, all Catholic Athletic League sports require a $45.00 participation fee to defray costs for materials, equipment, league registration fees, etc.
