Leadership Message
Dear St. Luke Families,
Our on-line learning is once again over and we are gratefully returning to school. As we pivot once more we are extremely thank-ful for all your support and assistance in helping your children through the online process.
We are looking forward to our week. Father Jim will be joining us for our Adoration Mass on Thursday. Please join us if you can. We will have a link to the virtual mass posted on our Facebook site.
I know students will be excited to return to school and we can’t wait to see them all tomorrow.
With joy,
Cathy Hinger
Principal
“As Jesus and his disciples were on their way, he came to a village where a woman named Martha opened her home to him. She had a sister called Mary, who sat at the Lord’s feet listening to what he said. But Martha was distracted by all the preparations that had to be made. She came to him and asked, “Lord, don’t you care that my sister has left me to do the work by myself? Tell her to help me!”
“Martha, Martha,” the Lord answered, “you are worried and upset about many things, but few things are needed—or indeed only one. Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her.” Luke 10 38-42
In this verse from the Bible two sisters had Jesus over for dinner. Martha was very busy, and she was rushing around preparing for Jesus. She was cooking and cleaning and working, and became upset because her sister, Mary, was just talking with Jesus. She wasn’t helping do the work but instead was listening to Jesus talk. This caused Martha to become upset and asked Jesus to yell at her about it. But He told her Mary was the one doing the right thing. It was not as important to do things for Jesus as it was to spend time with Him. Jesus didn’t want a dusted floor or fresh loaf of bread. He wanted people. It’s important not just what we know or say or do…it’s how we love God. We can breathe and pause and rest in His presence. He is always there for us!
Today we are often preoccupied and are very busy. People are constantly ‘doing’, producing, accomplishing, achieving, keeping up or getting ahead of everything. The story of Martha and Mary is a positive reminder of the importance of resting in God’s presence. Sometimes we think that we have to do certain things or know certain things in order for God to love us more. But there is nothing we need to do to earn His love! He already loves us, and all we have to do is accept His love and know that Jesus died for us. He did all the work. And He wants us to just be ourselves and enjoy His presence. This is what we do in Eucharist Adoration.
This week students and staff will be celebrating Adoration Mass with Father Jim, followed by Eucharist Adoration. The Eucharistic Host is displayed in a monstrance on the altar so that we all can see and pray in the presence of Jesus. During Eucharistic Adoration, we spend time adoring the true presence of Christ in the Eucharist. We spend time kneeling, sitting, standing, and even laying on the floor before the Blessed Sacrament are all appropriate forms of prayer. Students will spend time in stillness, being present with Jesus. This is their personal time with Christ.
