❣️ November Love Offering
The recipient of November's Love Offering is the "Give Hope" program (click on the pic). Operated by the Volunteers of America of Pa., "Give Hope" is the only street outreach program serving those experiencing homelessness in Luzerne County. The outreach team specifically works in “hot spot” areas and encampments to meet individuals where they are to provide them with case management, supplies, and services.
The NOVEMBER Interview:
Mike & Karen Green
> “It’s not easy being green,” sang Kermit the Frog, one of the Muppets. Jim Henson, the creator of the Muppets, intended this song to be about being comfortable with yourself and always acknowledging the dignity of others. That would describe Mike & Karen Green!
> You’ll see Mike and Karen around the church in their respective roles. Mike, a retired locomotive engineer for D&H/CP Rail, serves as an usher. Karen, a retired pharmaceutical technician at Wilkes Barre General Hospital, is an active member of the Congregational Care Team, a cook for “Meals That Heal,” and a volunteer driver to appointments.
> Natives of eastern Pennsylvania, they would love to live anywhere on the West Coast. In the meantime, they enjoy traveling in their RV on vacations, especially to visit their son and his wife in Washington, D.C.
> They keep busy with hobbies as well: Mike is a model railroader, gardener, woodworker, and lending a hand to anyone who needs it, and Karen likes weight training, walking their dog, helping her friends, and being in nature.
> The Greens have been church members since 1990; they think that “FFUMC is a beautiful church, but it's also like being home with family.” Karen said, “The friendships we have made will be forever. Pastor Rich is amazing and gives us such a great feeling of peace and God's amazing grace and love.”
