Juana Melo Recognized for Being Named Washington State Migrant Education Program’s Recruiter of the Year
Each year, the Washington State Title I, Parc C, MEP celebrates migrant staff who have demonstrated exceptional service and devotion while acting on behalf of the program. Mrs. Melo was selected for this award because of her creative ways in relationship building and engaging the migrant families in Pasco.
In recognition of her outstanding contributions, Mrs. Melo now holds a well-deserved place of honor on the PSD Wall of Distinction, located just outside the Board Room in the Booth Building. This plaque serves as a lasting reminder of her dedication and impact on our district. Additionally, she was presented with a certificate and flowers, a small token of our immense appreciation for her exceptional work.
Setting 2024 Legislative Priorities
Marie Sullivan, Legislative Advocate, discussed setting legislative priorities for 2024 during a student session with the Board.
During the discussion, Ms. Sullivan reviewed the significant themes and priorities identified by the Office of the Superintendent of Public Instruction (OSPI) and the Washington Association of School Administrators (WASA) for the upcoming 2024 legislative session. She also discussed ideas for the board to consider as legislative and fiscal priorities.
The next step is for the Board to identify 1-2 priorities to champion during the 2024 legislative session. This decision will be made during a future regularly scheduled Board meeting.
School Start-Up Report 2023-2024
Mira Gobel, Assistant Superintendent of Schools & Social Emotional Learning, provided information about the opening of the 2023-2024 school year and the number of students enrolled.
As of September 7th, we are delighted to report that our district has 18,276 students enrolled for the current school year.
While this is a significant number, our commitment to providing an inclusive and equitable education means that we're continuing our outreach efforts. Our goal is to connect with families whose students haven't yet attended school to ensure that every child has the opportunity to learn and thrive in our district.
The district’s second enrollment count day will take place on October 2, 2023.
