A message from the principal
The school year continues to fly by! Winter conferences are in full swing. Our teachers are enjoying connecting with families about student progress. Classes continue to visit Mississippi Gateway Park and enjoy Junior Master Gardener in the greenhouse. This week, we had another Ninja Math day and visits from authors Christopher Danielson and David LaRochelle. We enjoyed some Valentine's Day celebrations, and the 100th day of school is just around the corner. Our teachers are hard at work helping students learn and grow each day. I am loving being part of this school community!
I have been working on making classroom visits to students in grades 3-5 to discuss some of the challenges that come along with social media and technology devices. A few things we talked about:
- Be kind - Think before you send, post or submit.
- Be careful - Only connect with people you know, and talk with your grown-ups about your privacy settings to make sure they are properly set. Also, never share personal information.
- Grown-ups are here to help - If you come across something that makes you feel uncomfortable or unsafe, tell an adult.
- Regarding technology in elementary school, school board policy dictates that personal cell devices should be kept powered off and in a student's backpack throughout the day. Additionally, smart watches should not be used for communication purposes during the school day. Unlike middle and high school, we do not have lockers that lock. The school is not responsible for lost or stolen items, so please be mindful of what is sent to school.
We have been working to keep our playground fun and safe for all. For the sake of consistency, I am providing our list of recess rules for families so you can review these with your child at home.
- Share
- Take Turns
- Be a Friend
- Follow Directions
- Return equipment when you are done playing with it
- Stay within the playground boundaries
- Use equipment safely and properly
Thank you for your partnership in communicating appropriate and safe behavior on the playground.
CBPA Spirit Wear
Our online store closes tomorrow, 2/18. Click here to access the PTO website. Click on 'Spirit Wear' to access the store. I know there was some difficulty with the link I included last time. You may get an error message, but if you wait, the site should load. If you get a prompt for a username and password, enter CBPA for both.
Volunteer news
What a busy week we had this week! Thank you so much for everyone who helped with ninja day, classroom parties and staff appreciation. Your help and thoughtfulness is very much appreciated!
Please see below for some upcoming volunteer opportunities:
Lunchroom Volunteers (February & March): Thank you to those volunteers who have helped us out in the lunchroom so far this school year. Your help is very much appreciated!
Volunteers are needed to help with getting the students through the serving line, assisting them while they are eating, helping them during lunch dismissal and wiping down tables. The time is 11 a.m. - 1:45 p.m. However, if you are not able to commit to the entire time - that is ok - we will take whatever time you are willing to offer. Just note in your signup what time you will be volunteering! Please click on the links below to see what days help is needed:
Choir Volunteers: Do you have a student who is in choir? If so, we would love your help during our choir rehearsals! Volunteers are needed to help with attendance, help direct students to stay on task and maintain quiet during and after rehearsals, distribute materials for Ms. Dille and assist with student dismissal and parent pick up. Volunteer time is 3:45-5pm. Thank you to those volunteers who have signed up so far to help-your help is appreciated! There are a few more openings. Please click on the link below to see what dates help is still needed:
Math Plus Leaders: The purpose of the Math Plus program is to provide additional, on-going mathematical experiences for students in grades K-5. Students participate in math activities that reinforce problem solving, logic and reasoning and communicating mathematical findings. Leaders would come in once a week either before or after school and work with a group of 5-10 students. Please note, there is a possibility that groups could meet during the school day! Time commitment would be 6 weeks or more if you like. Training is provided by the district. Please let me know if this is something you would like to be a part of!
Challenge Reading Leaders: In Challenge Reading, volunteers provide children with additional opportunities to foster a love of reading outside of the classroom by introducing various genres of literature, extending students' writing connections and promoting higher level thinking skills. Leaders would come in once a week either before or after school and work with a group of 5-10 students. Please note, there is a possibility that groups could meet during the school day!
Time commitment would be 6 weeks or more if you would like. Training is provided by the district. Please let me know if this is something you would like to be involved with!
Thank you for considering!

A message from Health Services
The Health Office maintains a supply of clothing for times when little mis-haps occur during the school day. Our supply is running low. We welcome donations of used clothing (donated underwear needs to be new). We are currently most in need of pants in small and medium sizes. Pull on pants such as joggers/sweats and leggings are the most versatile. If you have outgrown pants looking for a new home, we will be happy to take them.
Thank you and have a nice weekend.
