Important Dates

• March 21-25: No School, Spring Break
• April 5: ACT/PreACT for Grades 10 & 11; Digital Learning Day for Grades 9 & 12
• April 5: Grade 12 Bilingual Seals Test

We will have five 4-week extended day credit recovery sessions this year. Our next session starts on Monday, March 28th and goes through Friday, April 22nd. Click here to register for the Spring I session by Friday at 3:00pm!

Use this planning document to help plan for credit recovery this year!

• Each class is worth the equivalent of .75 credit (equal to one quarter course during the school year)
• Students are required to attend class on each of the four Mondays of the session (2:45-4:00pm)
• More than one absence will result in removal from the course (can start again the next session)
• Teachers will provide supported work sessions on Tuesdays/Thursdays
• Attendance on Tuesdays/Thursdays may be required and will be determined by the teacher based on your progress/grade
• Students may attend supported WIN Time sessions on Wednesdays for additional support if needed
• Students must engage in all course work and earn at least 60% in order to earn credit

Juniors and Seniors who are interested in serving on the 2022 Prom Committee are invited to stay after school today, March 15. The meeting begins at 2:40 in A106. Contact Mr. Kemp or Ms. Hengel with questions!

Every Wednesday students can benefit from an opportunity for academic support from 2:45pm – 4:15pm in the Learning Commons. Students are supported to complete their schoolwork learning in a supervised setting. Faculty and staff are available along with upper-class peer tutors (especially skilled in Mathematics). Students will identify their priorities (“What I Need” or “What’s Important Now”), create a plan for the most efficient use of their time, celebrate their accomplishments, and leave with a plan for continued success. Students do not need to sign up in advance for WIN Time. We do ask that students plan to be there for the start at 2:45pm so they can benefit from the full support. We will keep a log of students and their engagement (arrival/departure time and their focus/work while they are there). For students needing transportation home, activity buses will be available departing at 5:15pm.

The final day of Quarter 3 is Friday, April 8.

Due to our spring break dates, Eastview will be celebrating National Down Syndrome Day on Tuesday March 29th in style! Our shirts this year feature our very own Ava Granger who passed away earlier this year. Let's see those shirts on March 29!

Students in District 196 will be provided breakfast and lunch at no cost during the 2021-22 school year due to a grant provided by the U.S. Dept. of Agriculture. All families are still encouraged to complete an Educational Benefits Application, formerly the free and reduced-price meals application. Upon approval, these benefits are extended to Activities/Athletics fees and more. A new application must be submitted each year.

The volunteer senior party committee is seeking some storage space/garage to put decorations that are used year after year. The current building that has donated space for the past 15 years is being sold. Any available space would be greatly appreciated. The 2022 All-Night Senior Party is a chemical-free lock-in at EVHS on June 4, 2022 from 10:00 pm to 4:00 am. Students will enjoy a night filled with music, games, activities, food, prizes and more! Each year this party is a highlight for graduating seniors with at least 80% of the class attending.

Prairie Fire Children's Theatre Peter Pan (ages 7-18)

The Apple Valley PD and Rosemount PD have a teen academy every year for kids who are interested in a law enforcement career or just want to learn more about law enforcement. This year it will be held from April 7th through April 28th on Thursday nights from 6pm to 8pm. Its free and kids can register at https://www.cityofapplevalley.org/CivicAlerts.aspx?AID=3450. Registration deadline is March 31st.

Thank you to all that were able to make it to our Spring College Planning Night last Thursday evening! If you were unable to attend, you can view the presentation HERE.

Topics included: EVHS graduation requirements, college visits, choosing a college, college requirements, ACT and SAT testing, Naviance, and the necessary timelines in the application process.

EVHS Juniors have the opportunity to take the ACT on Tuesday, April 5, 2022. Testing begins promptly at 7:45 AM and is expected to end at 11:30 AM. Pre-registration will be done in Advisories on Wednesday, March 16th.

EVHS Sophomores have the opportunity to take the PreACT on Tuesday, April 5, 2022. The PreACT is a practice ACT exam. The PRE-ACT will begin at 7:45 AM and is expected to end at 11:30 AM. Pre-registration will be done on the morning of the test.

There is no fee or pre-registration needed for these exams. There is no makeup test date offered.

What should students bring to the ACT and PreACT?

· An ACT approved graphing calculator

· No. 2 pencils

· Acceptable photo ID

What should students NOT bring? Testing regulations do not allow these items in the testing room and need to be stored elsewhere during the test. Students are encouraged to leave all unnecessary personal items at home on this day.

· Cell phones or iPads

· Any electronic devices that record or make noise

What can students do to prepare before the day of the test?

· Plan to be in school that day. Do not plan appointments or vacations for this date.

· Use their Naviance student account to access Naviance ACT Test Prep for free. Click on Resources to Get Ready from the Naviance homepage. Timed practice tests are available for students there.

· Visit the ACT free practice site located here.

What can students do to prepare for the day of the test?

· Get a full night’s rest and have breakfast (students will receive the option for lunch after the test and be able to request a lunch in their advisory class).

· Arrive early, in advance of the test start time.

· Test proctors will not permit students who arrive late into the testing room.

All students/math levels welcome!

Students should stop by the Counseling Office and get a pass to attend the college/university/military Rep Visit prior to the right visit. These university/college or military visits are small group meetings typically lasting 20-30 minutes. These admission reps are often times the same people that review college applications, so it's a great connection for students.

Attention Boys Golfers:

Boys golf tryouts will begin on Tuesday, March 29th. Weather permitting, we will be at Valleywood Golf Course starting around 3:00pm on March 29th for the first 9 holes of tryouts. Athletes must be registered for golf on My Payments Plus by Monday, March 28th in order to participate in tryouts. Please monitor the school announcements for any updates regarding the tryout schedule. Check outside the counseling office for tryout information on Tuesday morning, March 29th or see Coach Wanous in the counseling office or Coach Wagner in B224.

The Lightning Boys Volleyball season starts when we return from spring break, and registration is now open in My Payments Plus. No experience is necessary…just a desire to learn and compete! Come be a part of the fastest growing high school sport in Minnesota and the nation.

This past weekend, our students competed in the State Business Professionals of America Conference downtown Minneapolis. Every Eastview student that competed was recognized as a finalist in their respective events. The team is coached by Lean Lencowski.

The following students qualified for the BPA National Conference which will be held on May 4-8 in Dallas, TX.

This weekend, members of the Eastview Speech Team competed at the Central Minnesota District Speech Tournament, our national qualifier for the National Speech and Debate Association National Tournament held this June in Louisville, Kentucky.

Six speakers qualified for the 2022 national tournament in speech:

Zoe Champ - Programmed Oral Interpretation

Nate Krekeler & Morgan Oksendahl - Duo Interpretation

Cailin Mayotte - Dramatic Interpretation

Rhea Rajvansh - United States Extemporaneous Speaking

In addition, Faye Zhang will attend nationals as an auto-qualifier in United States Extemporaneous Speaking due to her semifinals finish at last year's event.

These seven speakers join debate team members Allison Champ, Isaiah Dalzell, Tirsit Enbackom, Malaya Galindez, Caden Hubbs, Izhan Qureishy, and Sami Tesfaye, who all qualified for the national tournament earlier this school year in the events of Public Forum Debate and Congressional Debate. This weekend, Eastview was named the 2022 School Sweepstakes Champions in the Central Minnesota District for performance in both speech and debate at the District Tournament Series; earlier this year, Eastview was named the 2022 Debate School Sweepstakes and 2022 Congress School Sweepstakes Champions of Central Minnesota as well.

The Central Minnesota District of the National Speech and Debate Association is considered to be one of the most competitive districts in the entire nation, and advancing to elimination rounds is an outstanding accomplishment. This past weekend, the EV Chess Team placed second at the State Tournament. Scoring for the Lightning were Ben Vanorny, Isaac Traynor, Ethan Phua and Ethan Beck.

Junior Ben Vanorny and sophomore Isaac Traynor both finished in the top 5. In two weeks each of them will compete with the other top finishers for the right to represent Minnesota at the National Tournament this summer.

Competing for the Lightning were Andrew Spring, Ethan Beck, Simi Khulbe, Ben Vanorny, Evan Roske, Braylon Sturdivant, Nathan Elango, Julie Zhang, Isaac Traynor, Ethan Phua, Nirav Singhal, Kartik Saravanapandi, Levi Fregien, Nadim Boulos, Jackson McGregor, Eduard Levin, Xander Severson, and Cooper Jensen.

Spanish Club will be cooking at our next meeting! If there is a Spanish or Latin American dish you’d recommend that we prepare, comment to the post in our Schoology group by the end of the week. Then, we will meet in the C137 kitchens on Wednesday, March 16 at 2:35pm to prepare and enjoy a few authentic dishes.

Our Future Health Professional club (HOSA) is participating in a service project for Luv Michael, an Autism Awareness program that helps those with autism find resources and jobs. Please go here if you are interested in making a donation or would like to learn more about this cause.

Current sophomores and current juniors are eligible to complete a candidate form. It is strongly encouraged that the eligible candidate have a cumulative 3.8 GPA or higher.
