North Syracuse Central School District's weekly e-news
Issue #61 | April 22, 2022
Hello North Syracuse Central School District Parents, Guardians, Teachers and Staff,
I hope you had a nice spring recess and adjusted well getting back into the swing of things. I feel like this week is always a busy one as it marks the final push of the school year. This time is especially bittersweet for the parents of our high school seniors who are holding on as they think about their children making such big changes in the near future.
Recently I've been talking to some parents about the anxiety they're feeling for their children who are making very big decisions right now. I remember going through the same thing with my own children. It is so hard to watch our kids struggle with choices that we know will impact the rest of their lives. As parents, we always want the best for our kids and it is hard to let them make such big decisions without being too vocal about what we want for them. I feel like one of the most important things we can do for our kids though is to keep them talking. Ask them what is important to them and what support they need. I find that having these conversations helps kids sort things out in their minds and end up with a decision that they (and you) feel comfortable with and confident about.
This week I've also thought about the subject of making choices in relation to mental health. There are so many choices we make on a daily basis that greatly impact others as well as ourselves. It is so important to think about things before acting...especially in light of social media and the lasting impacts of digital content. This isn't an easy topic and we continue to explore ways to support our parents as they help their children in this area. I hope to be able to share some of those opportunities with you in the near future. In the meantime, stay well, stay safe and remain thoughtful.
Sincerely,
Daniel D. Bowles, Superintendent of Schools

Cicero-North Syracuse High School Goes Blue For Kids
In honor of the month of April being Child Abuse Prevention Month, students at Cicero-North Syracuse High School are helping support the cause through the McMahon Ryan Child Advocacy Center’s “Go Blue 4 Kids” campaign. Twice this month, different groups of C-NS students have taken time to “plant” blue pinwheels in front of the school to show their support.
On Monday, April 4, members of the school’s Honor Society gathered to plant their pinwheels and a campaign sign and on Friday, April 22, students in Karin Hurry’s class added their contributions. The pinwheels were gifted to the school in honor of two separate generous, anonymous donations to the McMahon Ryan Child Advocacy Center. The donations were made by staff of the high school who wanted to help raise awareness for the campaign. Learn more about the campaign or make donations online at www.mcmahonryan.org.
