Undokai is Back!
Unfortunately, our campus will be closed on November 9 for Undokai. This is our first Undokai in several years and all our focus will be on making this a great event for our students. We greatly appreciate our parents and are looking forward to and planning other activities during which we will be including our families. We thank you for your support and understanding.
Thank you!

UNDOKAI VOLUNTEER SIGNUP
The school event will not have families on campus (see letter above); however, PTA-supported volunteers are needed to make this event successful for all the students.
We are in need of lent-out pop-up tents, hachimaki (bandana) washing, and cleared volunteers for tent set up and break down on the day of the event.
If you have any questions, please email undokaiem@gmail.com.

Native American Heritage Month
This month we recognize and celebrate Native American culture and history. We can all learn about Native American tribes right there locally in Culver City and Los Angeles. A great place to visit as a family are the La Ballona Wetlands were you can learn about the Tongva people. Some of our students visited this site as a field trip and it would be so great to make a school to home connection. Another place to visit just 15-20 mins away is the Kuruvungna Sacred Springs in Santa Monica. This is a small site located on the University High school grounds and you can visit on Saturdays from 10 am to 3 pm.
Native American Heritage is also a time to celebrate the indigenous peoples across the Americas and PTA hopes to bring an assembly to the students were they can learn a little about the indigenous peoples from Mexico, Central America, and South America through music, instruments, and story-telling.

Seeking Volunteers for Book Fair Week: Nov 14-18
El Marino PTA is pleased to host our annual fall book fair November 14-18, featuring titles from Scholastic, Kinokuniya, and La Librería. Students will visit at their scheduled class time. They may purchase books via cash or check (checks made out to El Marino PTA). Scholastic also offers a cashless digital option called eWallet.
More information about eWallet can be found here: https://bookfairs.scholastic.com/bookfairs/parent-how-it-works.html?fairID=5195512
We need your support to make this event a success! We are seeking cleared volunteers to help staff the event. In particular, we would appreciate the support of individuals who can guide students through the target language sections of the fair.
Sign-Up here: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/10c0e4eadae28a2fdcf8-fall
If you are interested in being a chaperone for your child's class, please reach out to your teacher or room parent to determine if class volunteers are needed and to confirm your child's class visit date/time.
Finally, we are excited to explore the possibility of opening the fair to the community after school on Wednesday, Nov 16th (from 1:45-3pm). We can only offer this if we have sufficient volunteers! Note that volunteer clearance will not be required to help out or shop during the after-school community event. Please sign up today (link above).
Additional tips to prepare for the fair will be shared next week. For any other questions, contact us at bookfair@elmarinopta.org
