Students at Macdonough School are exposed to interdisciplinary units of study that have at their foundation a focus on Science, Technology, Engineering and Math.

Students are provided the opportunity to become independent learners and thinkers through Project-Based Learning.

All of our projects focus on the Engineering Design Process in order to solve real-world problems.

Our engineer of the month is Harald from Mrs. Slade's 4th grade class! Harald has been selected as our engineer of the month because he is always brainstorming new and innovative ideas to improve things around him. He is a team player during group projects, and helps his classmates find solutions or think outside of the box. Harald likes to ask clarifying questions to make sure he is completing his work to the best of his ability. Keep up the great work, Harald!

In addition, 4th grade is participating in the Invention Convention, which will take place in March. Please continue to provide feedback and reach out to Ms. Mikulak or Mr. Ferrero through ClassDojo. We LOVE working on these projects and supporting the students.

We are "rooting for winter" here at Macdonough, and we will be talking about root vegetables this month! Students will be getting carrots from a local farm on their lunch trays this month, as well as getting rainbow carrots in their snack. Carrots are rich in beta carotene, which your body converts into vitamin A. This nutrient promotes good vision and is important for growth, development, and immune function.

Second graders are beginning to work on their Project-Based Learning: Trash to Treasure. If you have any clean plastic such as potato chip bags, clementine bags, or jugs, please ask your child to bring them into school and either hand them to a second grade teacher or Ms. Mikulak! Thank you.
