Principal's Message
Greetings Springwater Students and Families,
Thank you to everyone who participated in student conferences last week! I hope everyone had a restful long weekend. If you missed conferences and have a student who is struggling, we began reaching out this week to problem-solve and support. Remember these were the last progress grades before the final semester grades at the end of January. The week of semester finals is only 5 weeks away!
We are gathering feedback to improve and refine conferences for next year. We have included a link to the survey below (in English, Russian, and Spanish). Even if you chose not to participate this year, we would appreciate your input.
Student leadership continues to problem-solve and creatively design activities for students, even in the midst of COVID. We have our WinterFest on Thursday, December 16th from 4:30pm - 6:30pm. October's HarvestFest was a great success and I appreciate student leadership providing these opportunities to safely socialize and have fun. Students can purchase tickets in the front office.
As we hear stories about the behavioral climate of schools across the country, I am grateful for the positive, respectful energy our students continue to exhibit during this challenging school year. Please continue to support your student by checking CANVAS with them regularly (so you can see their grades and missing assignments), remind them to charge and bring their chromebooks to school each day, and support them getting to school each day, on time. As always, reach out if you have questions or concerns. Thank you for all you do!

December Spotlight Students
Luke Ligatich
Grade: 9
Interests: I really enjoy 80’s and 90’s nostalgia stuff, the aspect of business and marketing, and guitar.
Favorite subject in school: My favorite subject has to be Spanish class. It’s very fun and engaging. It’s great to be able to learn another language.
Favorite thing about STHS: How it’s smaller, has a better community, and everyone can get their own help if it’s needed.
Keely Kulick
Grade: 10
Interests: Art is a very big interest of mine. I love music. I love singing, as well. So if art ever fails me, I’ll just become a singer.
Favorite subject in school: Probably art class. I also really like English and PE. Those are very fun.
Favorite thing about STHS: How approachable everybody is. In my middle school, it wasn’t exactly that easy to just walk up and become friends with people. At this school, everybody is friendly and everybody I could just walk up to and be like, “Hey! Friend!”
Maddie Engler
Grade: 11
Interests: Sleep. Doesn’t everyone say that at this age? And Soccer.
Favorite subject in school: English. I guess it’s just one of those things that has always clicked for me while other things haven’t.
Favorite thing about STHS: I like that, even though I’m not here most of the day (Middle College), it still feels like I know everyone and everyone, more or less, knows of me.

Superintendent Search: Tell us what you think!
The Gresham-Barlow School Board needs your input to help with the process of selecting the next superintendent of schools.
The Gresham-Barlow School Board is conducting a superintendent search to replace Dr. Katrise Perera who resigned on June 30. While the board conducts the search, James Hiu is serving as Acting Superintendent.
Your participation is essential
The school board needs your input to help with the process of selecting the next superintendent. To gather feedback, the school board is using a tool called ThoughtExchange so as many people as possible can participate. You can participate in a variety of languages including Spanish or Russian.
The School Board wants to know:
What should the new superintendent know about our District, and what important skills and qualities would help them be most successful in the role?
