Message from the Principal
We NEED everyone's help! It will take 5 minutes of your time! It is that time again for the annual Illinois 5Essentials survey. The 5Essentials Survey gathers data related to five indicators that can be targeted to improve important student outcomes, including attendance and state test score gains.
It illustrates a school's strength in multiple Measures of each of the five essential factors for school improvement: Ambitious Instruction, Effective Leaders, Collaborative Teachers, Supportive Environment, Involved Families.
It is an important tool for us to understand how our school is performing from a parent, student and staff perspective. The information we gather from this survey is not only used internally to make improvements to our school culture and climate, but also becomes part of online school ratings and rankings used across a variety of platforms.
If our parent participation level is below 20 percent, we will not receive any parent information from the state regarding this important and valuable data. Parent feedback will also be omitted from our online ratings. Last year, our school had a 19 percent participation rate from parents. We kindly ask that you take five minutes to take the anonymous survey asap. As an incentive, I will add the names of parents who show completion of the survey into a raffle for the chance to win a $20 gift card. Please email me a screenshot after completion.
The survey can accessed by following this link: the 5Essentials Survey website OPENS Feb 1st
Thank you for your participation and valued feedback!
As a reminder, TUESDAY, JANUARY 30TH IS A HALF DAY FOR STUDENTS IN FULL DAY CLASSES. THERE IS NO SCHOOL FOR HALF DAY CLASSES.
As always, please email or call me with any questions, concerns or feedback.
Warmly,
Michelle LaCamera

Why did you become a teacher or why did you want to work in a school?
I became a PT to help people gain independence and function no matter what challenges arise. I like schools because I can help kids, family, and staff see how much potential they have and help find ways to access and grow that potential!
What inspires you?
People overcoming challenges, time outdoors, examples of great faith and perseverance!
What is your favorite quote?
I can do all things through Him who gives me strength.

Why did you become a teacher or why did you want to work in a school?
Being a teacher has always been my call. Since I was at high school I was assisting, helping, and trying to make instruction easier for others. Teaching came to me naturally and I then decided to make it my career. Moreover, when you see changes in kid's lives, when you see young people shaping their future, it is all worth the effort
What inspires you?
Back in Colombia, I had the chance to help low income community kids who had no chance but education to change their history. Seeing some of those kids now at the universities gets me the boost of energy to keep believing my profession can actually change lives. Being passionate about what I do is the best way of teaching my own kids to do what one loves
What is your favorite quote?
La escritura no es producto de la magia, sino de la perseverancia."( Writing is not a product of magic but perseverance) Richard Northon Patterson

Why did you become a teacher or why did you want to work in a school?
It allows me the opportunity to be part of the school community and to build positive relationships with students, staff and parents.
What inspires you?
My family inspires me. Seeing everyone work and grow together also inspires me.
What is your favorite quote?
Alone we can do so little; together we can do so much. - Helen Keller
