English Learner Education with Ms. Corcoran
The EL schedule has been completed and services are up and running. It has been such a pleasure to see and work with students from the previous year as well as welcome our new students to the program!
The following communications were sent home to families:
ACCESS Score Report
Federal Parent Notification Letter
State Parent Notification Letter
EL Reclassification Letter (if applicable)
Opt-Out Form (if applicable)
Please note that these communications have been translated into the following languages: Chinese, Portuguese, Spanish, and Vietnamese.
The scores seen on the Parent Notification Letters reflect either the 2023 ACCESS for ELLs 2.0 results or WIDA Screener results if enrollment was after the previous year’s assessment.
I am looking forward to helping the EL students of Merrymount have a successful year!
Congratulations!
SchoolMessenger
The SchoolMessenger system is essential for notification and communication. QPS school officials will use SchoolMessenger to deliver a single, clear message to parents or guardians by telephone, cell phone, email, or text message in any combination. SchoolMessenger can also be used to notify you of a school closing due to inclement weather and to communicate daily information, such as sports schedules, newsletters, attendance notifications, and other announcements.
The system is set up to automatically pull your contact information from what we have in our Student Information System (Aspen) and carry it over into SchoolMessenger. Please contact your school building office to update your contact information or confirm you are receiving SchoolMessenger communications.
If you have not been receiving district text messages, you may opt-in by texting "Y" or "Yes" to our school's short code number: 67587. This is a FREE service and you may opt-out at any time by replying to one of our messages with "Stop."

Shriners Pull-Tab Collection
Shriners Hospitals for Children in Springfield and Boston have been collecting pull-tabs or “pop-tops” from beverage cans since 1989, recycling them, and putting the money toward programs that directly benefit children. Since its inception, about a half-million pounds of aluminum tabs have been collected and recycled. Did you know: The tabs are the only pure aluminum part of the can, and the cans may still be returned for deposit even after the tabs are removed. Please collect your pull-tabs and send them in with your student to Mrs. Ehrlich in the health office. We will get them to Shriners Hospital for Children to make sure they are put to good use!
Upcoming Health Screenings
- All students in 1st grade will be screened on Wednesday, October 11th for vision, hearing, height and weight.
- All students in 2nd grade will be screened on Monday, October 16th for vision and hearing.
- All students in 3rd grade will be screened on Thursday, October 12th for vision and hearing.
- All students in 4th grade will be screened on Friday, October 13th for vision and height/weight.
It is important that all students who wear glasses bring them to school every day, but especially on their screening day. I thank you for your cooperation regarding this matter. Please call if you have any questions 617-984-8925.

Merrymount DEI
October DEI Theme ~ Merrymount Celebrates Neurodiversity
During October, Merrymount is celebrating neurodiversity. Neurodiversity refers to natural differences in the way we think, learn and behave. It also refers to a world-wide movement headed by disabled people who are advocating for freedom, autonomy and inclusion in their communities. ADHD, Autism, Dyspraxia, Dyslexia, Epilepsy and Tourette's syndrome are all examples of neurodivergence. Neurodivergent individuals can bring out-of-the-box thinking and creative solutions to the education setting. At Merrymount, we understand that all people learn differently and need different things to support them in the classroom. Stop by Merrymount’s bulletin board to learn more about how to embrace our brain differences.
Huge shout out to parents Melissa Bobissa and Liz West for working on the board and presentation.
September DEI Theme ~ Merrymount Celebrates Hispanic Heritage Month
The Merrymount DEI ( Diversity Equity Inclusion) team is excited to present the Hispanic Heritage Month (September 15 - October 15) bulletin board. Huge shout out to Alba Cid and Shiv for working on the bulletin board.
Please email merrymount.schoolcouncil@gmail.com if you wish to join the DEI team or wish to know more about the upcoming initiatives.

Merrymount PTO is Looking for Volunteers for the Outdoor Classroom!
Hello MM Community! We need a little help keeping the MM Outdoor Classroom nice & tidy during these next few weeks of fall.
The details:
- We're asking for volunteers to sign-up for one (or several) of the weeks listed below.
- When you sign up, you can go clean up the classroom at any point during your assigned week (starting with the Sunday date) according to your schedule and what works best for you.
- You just need to make sure you go after school hours (from 2:00 p.m. on) or on the weekends.
- Mostly clean up involves cleaning up trash, picking up leaves, and reorganizing logs, rocks, etc., that's been moved to strange locations like the wood benches and platform.
- We also ask that you let either Ms. Shea Conor or the PTO know if you see vandalism or something in need of repair.
Thank you for your help! The link to sign up: Outdoor Classroom Tidy

What is a Trunk or Treat?
Trunk or Treat is planned for October 20th. Merrymount families will be decorating their cars for Halloween, creating scenes out of their trunks. Families will walk from vehicle to vehicle, collecting candy the way they would during a normal trick-or-treating outing. You do not have to decorate a car to participate in this event, but we thank those families in advance for volunteering to do so! There is no fee to come, but we do ask that students are accompanied by an adult at all times.
