UAMS Remote Learning Days
Important Parent and Student Information
Parents Roles and Responsibilities
Dear Parents and Guardians,
As we move forward to remote learning I would like to take a moment to provide you with some guidelines that will make this transition easier for both you and your child. Remote Learning activities will begin Wednesday, April 1st and will be directed by our teachers. Primarily, we will be using Google Classroom as well as Zoom and Google Chat and Connect Ed.
Teachers will be running office hours from 8-11 and 1-3 throughout this process. Until the close of the Quarter 3, students should be focusing on completing assignments that are outstanding. There will be delivery of new instruction during this time but we realize the importance of easing into the process and allowing students time to become familiar with the outlined routines. Below are some simple guidelines that we feel will help for a smooth transition. MOST IMPORTANTLY, STUDENTS MUST CHECK THEIR EMAIL REGULARLY.
Parents Role and Responsibilities
Provide support for your children by:
Establishing routines and expectations
Defining the physical space for your child to study
Monitoring communications from your child’s teachers
Beginning and ending each day with a check-in
Taking an active role in helping your child process his/her learning
Establishing times for quiet and reflection
Encouraging physical activity and/or exercise
Remaining mindful of your child’s stress or worry
Student Roles and Responsibilities
Check your email and Google Classroom everyday
Identify a space in your home where you can work effectively and successfully
Engage in all learning with academic honesty
Communicate proactively with your teachers if you cannot meet deadlines or require additional support
Comply with School Internet Safety policies including expectations for online etiquette.
If you have any questions or concerns please contact Mr. Brewer at s.brewer@upperadams.org.

Estimados padres y guardianes,

Using School Counseling Services During the Shut Down
Please know that you can still contact me for help and concerns just as you would during a normal day. I have made things a little more efficient for the students stay in contact with me. I encourage students, parents, and teachers to gmail me directly if they have any questions, concerns, etc. They can find that form in their google forms - entitled "Checking in with Ms. Jenkins".
Also, I will be setting up zoom sessions to check in with students who sign up for appointments, and will need the parents and students to review a consent form for these sessions before they occur. Please feel free to contact me if you have additional questions.
In addition to my services, our SAP counselor is also offering teletherapy sessions, so feel free to refer anyone you think might be having some issues. Our SAP team will be meeting throughout this time so we can continue on as needed! Keep in mind that some of my go-to resources are also shut down at this time, but emergency services will always be the fall back.
Finally, if anyone is experiencing any difficulties and needs to connect with someone right away, I encourage you to visit https://suicidepreventionlifeline.org/. This site offers voice and text chats available 24/7 for those who are feeling down. It does NOT have to just be suicidal thoughts. Services like this exist for a reason, and times like this are reason to affect our mental health negatively. Hang in there, and know you are supported!
Ms. Jenkins
