Happy Friday!

I hope everyone survived the Arctic temperatures! Because of the bitter cold, caused mostly by the wind chill, our kiddos had a lot of indoor recess. Here's hoping things warm up a bit so students can run around outdoors for every recess next week. If you recall, we use a "feels like" temperature through a weather app to determine if it is warm enough for students to go outside. Our procedure is the "feels like" must be at least 20F which, when compared to some of the northern states is quite warm. I recently read in North Dakota, "Elementary students in grades K- 5 will stay inside before school and/or during recess when the wind chill reaches -15° F". YIKES - negative 15F - I think I would freeze right to death!

• Spring pictures are scheduled for March 24. This is a FREE Dress Down Day. More information will be coming soon.
• Bullfrog shirts were sent home. If your kiddo did not bring your order home please have them check their locker.

In our Family Handbook, which you can find on our website, it specifically talks about TOYS BROUGHT TO SCHOOL. This is the exact verbiage from the Handbook:

Though it is highly discouraged, students may bring toys to school to play with during recess. However, if the items become a distraction during the school day or cause commotion during recess, a teacher or other staff member will confiscate the items and either give them to the child’s teacher or send them to the office until a parent or guardian can pick up the items.

Bridge does allow scooters to be used on our asphalt path around the school field provided students wear helmets. The school has 30 scooters and 30 helmets that students can use during recess. If a child chooses to use their own scooter and helmet it is highly suggested that the scooter and helmet be labeled with the child’s name. Students may NOT ride bikes, skateboard or roller skate/blade around the asphalt path during school hours.

If students bring cards, such as Pokemon cards, or other items that are typically “traded”, the school will NOT get involved in what students determine as unfair trades. The best way to avoid your child getting upset that another student has taken their “card” is to ensure the child does not bring these items to school. The school will NOT be responsible for toys brought from home that are lost, damaged or stolen during school including scooters, and the school will make minimal efforts and use minimal resources to find the missing items. The best way to ensure your child’s toys are not lost, damaged or stolen at school is to have your child keep all toys at home.

In some grades the problem with certain toys has become so invasive that teachers have requested the toys REMAIN AT HOME. Probably the most difficult to manage, especially with the littles, is Pokemon cards. If your child's teacher has asked the class NOT TO BRING a certain type of toy to school please help them implement this by following their requested procedures.

We are tracking ALL COVID positive cases and at-home exposures as reported to us by parents, staff and the health department.. These are the numbers of reported COVID positive staff and students over the past 7 days.

COVID + Staff = 0

We will continue to notify you if your child may have been exposed to a person testing positive for COVID at school. As a parent you can decide if you want to keep your child home for the recommended five days or send your child to school. If they come to school they SHOULD wear a mask for 10 days.

Please understand, we follow all state rules when it comes to COVID protocols. We understand the rules are confusing and may not make sense since in the end, parents can choose to not follow the suggested rules. Our goal is to educate kids in person while keeping them as safe as possible. We are diligent about sanitizing and cleaning and can only hope parents are diligent about keeping their child home when sick, and following the state recommendations of quarantine and mask-wearing when needed in an effort to keep their child and others safe.

Our Parent Teacher Conferences (PTC) are scheduled for March 16 - 18. On Wednesday, March 16, school is dismissed at 1:30 pm. Because it is early dismissal there is NO BASE on Wednesday, March 16. There is also NO school on Thursday March 17 or Friday March 18. Teachers have sent a sign up out for Parent Teacher Conferences. If you did not receive their sign up please reach out to your child's teacher.

We host only ONE formal PTC each year. However, three times a year your child's teacher (grades 1-6) invite you to attend the student's Personalized Learning Plan (PLP) meeting. Also, each and every teacher is open to meeting with you as needed, simply send them an email requesting a meeting and the reason for the meeting.

The Spring session of Mad Science is open for registration. The theme is SPACE! Mad Science is a private organization which rents space from Bridge to host their amazing, hands-on science program. You can find more information and the registration link on our website at:

Our Field Day is going to be another FABULOUS fun-filled day! It is the last day of school, Wednesday, June 1, and is a short day. Activities include:

• BBQ Lunch (K-6)
• Games and Prizes (K-6)
• School Movie (K-6)
• Yearbook Signing and Autographs (K-6)

We are SUPER EXCITED that parents will be allowed to volunteer with their child's class this year! In May your child's teachers will send information out about signing up to volunteer for Field Day.

We need the following donations for our Games and Prizes booths. Please drop items off in the office.

• Cans of soda for ring toss
• Small prizes like you can buy in a bag at Zurchers or Oriental Trading
• Medium prizes like you would find at a dollar store

Order your yearbooks today! Yearbooks will NOT be sold at the school. They will be delivered to the school and handed to students on the last day of school. The deadline to order April 15. If you choose not to order a yearbook for your student we will provide them with an autograph book on the last day of school they can use during yearbook signing.

We still have a need for paper towels and boxes of tissue. If you have any you would like to donate please drop the items off at the office.

We are also in need of school pants sizes 7-10 for our closet. We lend lots of clothes out for accidents (potty, mud, split milk, torn pants) and for students who do not wear dress code appropriate clothing.

UPDATE - Beginning March 15 students can turn in 10 Watch Me Learn tickets to have their name added to the FREE 10 Token Pass! Only one 10 Token Pass will be available for students. Students will pick up their Token Pass at the Bridge table at the rink. The tokens are used on the arcade games. Skating is FREE (bring your own skates or scooters) or you can pay to upgrade to a pass that includes ALL of the activities including Laser Tag, Bouncing, and Pirate's Cove.

MARK YOUR CALENDARS - We are hosting a fun filled "Math in May" family night on May 11, 6:00 - 7:30 pm. We will serve FREE dinner to all who attend! Families will have multiple stations to visit to play math games - tables filled with information regarding the math curriculum used at Bridge - and an estimation station in the foyer for a chance to win prizes by guessing how many items are in a jar. Each time a student visits a station and completes an activity they will earn a ticket for a prize drawing. Parents and guardians who attend will also receive tickets for an adult prize drawing.

We have completed our lottery for Kindergarten siblings. We have 40 kindergarten siblings for next year which leaves 35 spots open for the general public. We will host a Kindergarten Round Up on May 20 where your kiddos can meet their teachers and complete a short assessment. Data from the assessments will help the school plan for student needs and will also let parents know what the child still needs to work on before coming to kindergarten. Information to sign up for a spot for Kindergarten Round Up will be sent later in March or early in April.

Our expectation is that incoming kindergarten students can do the following:

• Write their first name
• Count objects up to 10
• Identify numbers 1-10
• Identify the names of MOST upper and lowercase letters (80%)
• Provide the sounds of MOST letters (80%)
• Identify colors (red, blue, green, yellow, white, orange, black, brown, purple, pink)
• Identify shapes (triangle, square, circle, rectangle, oval)
• Read these sight words (the, of, and, a, to, in, is, you, that, it)
