Impacting the world one student at a time
A Thankful November
November is upon us and so is the holiday season. The staff at Hudson Elementary has a lot to be thankful for especially our parents and families. This month begins with Progress Conferences on November 3rd. We look forward to sharing information about your students academic and social-emotional growth with you. We will end the month with a 4th and 5th Grade Music Concert on November 29th at 6:30 in the Hudson gymnasium. Have a happy and safe Thanksgiving!
Unstoppable Week
Unstoppable Week is November 13-November 17!
Unit 5 students will be participating in Unstoppable Week, which replaces what was previously known as “Red Ribbon Week” at many schools. This event is being delivered in partnership with BN Parents, an organization associated with Chestnut Health Systems.
Each day of the week, we will focus on a “Superpower” that will assist your child in reaching their full potential. Our goal is to make it fun and engaging! We encourage you to build it up, help them pick out clothing to go along with the activities we will be engaging in each day of the week, and ask them all about it when they return home.
Lessons will focus on making bike and pedestrian safety, healthy choices, managing daily challenges, building positive relationships, reducing stress, and using medication appropriately.
Unstoppable Week meets the district requirements for School Code, Section 27-13.2, which mandates instruction on effective methods for the prevention and avoidance of drugs at the elementary level (HB1162).
Do you lock up your medication? If you haven’t yet given any thought to how your medications are stored please know we now have lock boxes and drug disposal bags available. Please reach out to your school nurse to request a box or bag if your family has a need.

Expected and Unexpected Behaviors
This month students have been learning about expected and unexpected behaviors. Some behaviors, like running, are expected on the playground, but unexpected in the classroom. When students are involved in unexpected behaviors, their emotions and the emotions of their peers can change. We know that the best learning takes place when students are in the green zone, therefore the goal is to behave in expected ways. However, unexpected behaviors do happen. At school, we have talked about what to do when an unexpected behavior occurs. Ask your child what they would if an unexpected behavior occurs in the classroom, on the playground, in the cafeteria, etc.
