Attention All Eastview Students and Families. We are honored to once again be partnering with the Play for Patrick Foundation to be able to provide FREE Heart Screenings on October 30 from 9am-4pm at Eastview High School.

There are still several openings available for students and young adults between the ages of 14-24 for FREE Heart Screens! Register and/or sign-up to volunteer at www.playforpatrick.org Of particular need are Cardiac professionals to help with EKG, Echocardiogram and physician consult. 2021-22 Eastview Planners are available for purchase in the Main Office. They are $5. Come and get yours and get organized!

Students in District 196 will be provided breakfast and lunch at no cost during the 2021-22 school year due to a grant provided by the U.S. Dept. of Agriculture. All families are still encouraged to complete an Educational Benefits Application, formerly the free and reduced-price meals application. Upon approval, these benefits are extended to Activities/Athletics fees and more. A new application must be submitted each year.

Seniors, you can pick up your senior student ID cards at the West Entrance Security Office.

Masks Required on Buses and Inside Schools

State officials have given school districts the responsibility to determine COVID-19 mitigation strategies at the local level this school year. The 2021-22 COVID-19 Operational Plan for Families, Students and Visitors to Schools that was unanimously approved by our School Board on August 26 requires all students, staff and visitors in all District 196 buildings to wear a face mask indoors when the local transmission level is “substantial” or “high” as measured by the CDC transmission matrix. Currently, the transmission level in Dakota County is high, meaning face masks will be required in our schools to start the year, just as they are required to enter a growing number of businesses, government buildings and on all public transportation and airline flights.

Your partnership is critical to the success of our students. We expect students, staff and visitors to comply with the mask requirement, as outlined in Administrative Regulation 708.7, COVID-19 Masks, until the COVID-19 spread in Dakota County drops to the “moderate” level of transmission. Masks help reduce spread and give us the best opportunity to provide consistent in-person education all year. Just like last year, students will have opportunities for mask breaks during the day, such as at lunch or while outside. If parents and guardians are concerned about their child’s ability to safely wear a mask, they should refer back to Administrative Regulation 708.7 COVID-19 Masks.

Our district is committed to doing all we can to ensure students can continue learning in person this school year. This includes HEPA filters in all learning spaces, social distancing, recommending COVID-19 vaccinations for those who are eligible to receive them and requiring masks when the local transmission level is substantial or high.

Review and Update Emergency Information

If you haven’t already done so, please update your family’s information on record with the district by completing the online review in your Infinite Campus Parent portal account. This is the one time each year the district asks parents to complete the review to ensure schools have up-to-date contact information, emergency contacts, student health records and more. It is important for schools to have current information in order to be notified in case of emergency, changes in the school schedule and to receive regular communication from the schools and district.

All District 196 parents and guardians are encouraged to have an Infinite Campus Parent account of their own to stay involved in their child’s education, and to access end-of-term report cards, transcripts, attendance and other important information. Parents who do not have their own Infinite Campus Parent account can request an activation key from the office at their child’s school. For information on setting up an Infinite Campus Parent account and completing the online review, visit the Family Resources page on our district website.

Join us for an evening with Chris George, Dean of Admissions and Financial Aid at St. Olaf College. He will be presenting important information on paying for college, the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), and understanding college financial aid award packages (ex. grants, loans, scholarships, and work study).

2021-2022 Free Application Opportunities at Minnesota Colleges and Universities

As Minnesota high school students think about applying to college, application fees should not be a barrier. There are many opportunities for students to apply to MN institutions for free.

College Financial Aid information

The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) will be available October 1st. Please go to www.fafsa.gov to complete this application. Information to assist in completing the application are also available on the FAFSA website. All seniors attending ANY type of post-secondary institution should complete the FAFSA.

Students should stop by the Counseling Office and get a pass to attend the college/university/military Rep Visit prior to the right visit. These university/college or military visits are small group meetings typically lasting 20-30 minutes. These admission reps are often times the same people that review college applications, so it's a great connection for students.

All Boys Swimmers and Divers: We will have a preseason team meeting for all boys swimmers and divers on Wednesday, October 27th at 2:35 pm in classroom A209. All prospective team members should attend this short (10 minute) meeting.

VARSITY & JV SPORTS

BOYS CROSS COUNTRY SECTION TEAM EARNS MCA GOLD RANKING

Congratulations to our boys cross country team for representing Eastview as true student-athletes! Once again, our Section squad will earn the Minnesota Coaches Association Gold ranking with a 3.96 team GPA. Furthermore, the GPA for the full team is 3.71 and, most impressive; we also have three National Merit Semifinalists on this year’s squad – Hunter Dunne, Max Leach, and Isaiah Dalzell! Congratulations to all for prioritizing education and representing Eastview well.

BOYS VOLLEYBALL

Boys volleyball has open gym again this Sunday night from 6-8 pm in the south gym. Come check it out if you want to learn more or you want to play next spring!

New: Intramural Basketball Informational Meetings

Intramural Basketball will have informational meetings on Thursday, Nov. 18th before school at 7:00am, and after school, at 2:35pm in C350. Registration will open on MyPaymentsPlus on Monday, Nov. 22nd, and remain open until Friday, December 17th. The cost is $100. Contact Mr. Pat Strey with any questions.

The National Speech and Debate Association (NSDA) has released its annual ranking of debate and speech programs in the country. Eastview High School ranked 3rd out of over 3,000 schools nationwide for the 2020-2021 school year. The NSDA ranks programs by assessing both the quantity and quality of speech and debate team members; Eastview HS ranks highly because it has one of the nation's largest debate and speech programs and its students are competitively successful.

In June 2021, Eastview was named a National School of Outstanding Distinction in Speech and Debate for the second year in a row at the NSDA National Tournament (held virtually). This award, based only on competition results at the national tournament, placed Eastview in the Top 10 out of more than 1400 participating schools.

Wanted: Lifeguards and Swim Instructors

Looking for a fun way to earn some extra money and make an impact on lots of children in our community? The Community Education Aquatics Program is looking for those that are comfortable with their own swimming abilities to help teach swim lessons.
